Landgasthaus Waldschänke

Very nice country inn. The room was nicely furnished, the beds were very comfortable. The owners were very nice and the breakfast was great :)

Even though I only stayed there for one night, I was more than pleasantly surprised. I found a very well-run house and a very nice room with a balcony. The room is well equipped, the shower room is very nice. Everything very clean.The breakfast the next morning was simply great. Everything your heart desires.

A very nicely located country inn with extremely friendly staff! The breakfast was also excellent.Due to a traffic jam, I was significantly late and only arrived outside check-in times (at 11 p.m.). Someone came here especially for me, brought me the key and showed me the room.Here you definitely go the “extra mile” for your guests!

The kitchen is great!The landlord is child-friendly and always courteous.The restaurant offers a quiet, cozy place for dinner for two or the family.

Driven by our appetite for roast goose, we decided on the Waldschänke in Windenreute. We chose the lamb's lettuce as a starter and the goose leg with bread dumplings, glazed chestnuts, stuffed baked apple with nuts and red cabbage as the main course. The starter and the main course came from the kitchen in a reasonable time. Unfortunately, neither of us was impressed by the lamb's lettuce. Here you could have fried the crackers and the bacon and onions in the pan until crispy - the salad would have had more zest. The taste of the goose leg with salt was acceptable, but the meat was quite tough. I would have expected the leg to be braised to get the meat tender. Unfortunately, the red cabbage was also quite sweet, in combination with the chestnuts, it was represented twice as sweet on the plate. The bread dumpling was quite good with room for improvement, the fried apple with nuts was good - the nut filling was delicious. Big minus: the sauce isn't enough. A few more tablespoons would have been urgently needed. The rose wine, which we drank sour as a spritzer, was particularly good. The shandy and the apple spritzer were ok, but I've had better ones. The Waldschänke is a bit remote, but still easy to find. There are sufficient parking spaces available. The restaurant seems very clean and tidy, the interiors are quite nicely designed and decorated. In terms of price, I find the lamb's lettuce in particular too expensive at over eight euros - for what is on offer. In total we left over €80 for a meal that didn't excite us. A greeting from the kitchen could have bridged the waiting time until the starter. Here I have to think back to the St. Martin's goose menu at Captains Finest (Bell Rock). It was more expensive, but vastly superior. Alternatives to the Waldschänke: Landgasthof Etzenbach (Staufen), Goldener Anker (Freiburg) or Mühlenhof (Friesenheim). We didn't stay in the hotel, so I can't write anything about it here.

I went there for a spontaneous meal with my husband on Sunday! Everything was just right. Delicious food, top value for money. Service great, hospitable and very on the ball. We'll be back!

We had dinner there and did not use the hotel. Eaten well.
