We stayed in the youth hostel for a week as a family of 5 people (2 adults/3 children) and can really recommend it.We had the choice of either a room in the “main building” without a private bathroom/toilet or one in the tower with a bathroom/toilet.The decision fell on the tower room on the 7th (seventh) floor. Since the glass panoramic elevator unfortunately still has to be built, the climb is currently only possible via the stairs ;-)... You have an entire floor to yourself in the tower with 2 rooms and 2 double bunk beds, a total of 8 beds, next to them a bathroom with shower, toilet and 2 sinks (we don't know whether the other rooms in the tower are also equipped this way). The furnishings are a bit older (keyword: moss green) but are still maintained as far as possible. A renovation of the tower is planned from 2026.The remaining common rooms are all "freshly" renovated and make a very modern impression. The service (reception/kitchen/service) is extremely friendly and always very helpful. The breakfast corresponded to the standard of a youth hostel, if you expect more, you should book a hotel. Nevertheless, everything you need for a normal breakfast was there, including the sausage from the local butcher. The dinner was one of the best we have ever had in a youth hostel, and the highlight here was certainly the barbecue evening. The castle itself only exists as a ruin; both the tower ("keeper") and the main house date from the 1930s and 1960s.

We were at the Starkenburg last week and were completely satisfied. We booked 4 nights with half board and I think the price-performance ratio is very good.We had a tower room with a bathroom and toilet, which can be reached through the basement and a spiral staircase. The other rooms do not have a bathroom/toilet and appear relatively new.The outdoor area is very nice and clean. There is plenty of seating and also deck chairs. And there's a lot to discover around the castle. The food was very tasty and all the employees were super friendly. This made it very relaxed overall and we were able to relax well. The youth hostel is on a mountain. Guests are allowed to drive up to the top. The path is a bit adventurous, but it's worth it.Many thanks to the great team. We'd love to come back.
