A large traditional hostel. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were warm. We met some great people and had some lovely chats. The dining room had fantastic views. The staff were really helpful and went out of their way to help us track and catch a bus on a very very wet day.

Affordable and decent accommodation set in a beautiful rustic location.Accessed only by some of the most scenic roads/passes in Great Britain.Quite off the beaten track when it comes to tourists - not too many around to disturb the quiet.

We stayed here for a week while finishing the Coast to Coast (in reverse). It was a great base for wonderful walking and two lovely lakes and woods. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the kitchen did a fantastic job. The breakfasts were superb with everything cooked and presented very well and surprisingly good evening food. The rooms were clean and comfortable and at a good standard for this budget. The other guests were also a friendly and helpful bunch, giving the whole place a very harmonious relaxed atmosphere.

Great place to stop in the Lakes, Buttermere YHA is a 3 Star hostel and is a perfect place to explore Buttermere and surrounding fells.Quiet location giving you good rest before the next walk.Staff were friendly and helpful and looked after us while there, food is good with a simple choice after a good walk. Bedrooms are good with a choice of taking a private room or in a dormitory basis. Bathrooms and showers were ok, but with could do with a try to get rid of a bit of black mold. A good stop, thank you.Buttermere is one of the great valleys of the Lakes with great views and walks.

Stunning views from the YHA rooms and very close to some fantastic local pubs.Absolutely worth a stay if you are ok with bunk beds, the room we had could sleep 4 people on bunk beds so a good location for multiple people to stay.It had a fully functioning kitchen to use with storage for cold food and snacks.Brilliant front desk service and rooms are beautifully clean.There is a beautifully little memorial garden next to the building that had benches to sit at and enjoy the veiw.Would recommend this place 100% to anyone who wants to experience the lake district in comfort for a very reasonable price.

Buttermere is an amazing location. yha has lots of character and charm the staff where very helpful with my booking and my room clean my bed very comfortable lovely doona and pillow. the bathroom was clean and breakfast was plenty to choose from.
