We really enjoyed our stay in Inverness. The hotel is very grand and elegant. We very much enjoyed sitting in the bar by the beautiful staircase. I don’t mind the dated decor as it adds to the hotels Victorian charm. The hotel and rooms are very clean. Our room and bathroom were huge with 2 queen sized beds and dogs are very welcome which is a huge plus. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well. The only negative I sadly have is the operations manager. She doesn’t have very good social skills and comes across as quite rude at times, so we avoided the hotel restaurant after the first night. The cleaning ladies and other staff were friendly. The location is great and I would stay again.

The first thing to say about the Royal Highland is that it is most convenient for Inverness train station and that the decor, and fittings, in the Reception area are just beautiful. …

First, the positives: hotel location could not be better. Staff are nice. Bar is convenient and well priced. Lobby is terrific. General atmosphere is the exact kind of odd that I like. …

We were quite surprised to read some of the poor reviews, having enjoyed a perfectly acceptable one night B&&+dinner package. …

The location is convenient and central, but the area of the city it is in is a bit down at heel compared to the other side of the river. Very limited parking but ample public parking facilities nearby. The female receptionist, upon our arrival, was first class, and the staff at breakfast were all polite, friendly, and well turned out and smart in contrast to the guests. The bar area is a little dated and quite expensive. The restaurant menu seemed overpriced as well, and the dishes were quite pedestrian. The double room was spacious with a large, roomy, and comfortable bed with very clean linen. The bathroom was dated, and the windows there and in the bedroom needed replacing. The tea selection was limited, and the TV was not tuned in on many channels. The overall decor in the hotel is quite tired, but they do have some nice original features and mirrors/items of furniture. The continental breakfast was actually better than expected and was all that was needed to set you up for the day. The one lift in the hotel serving three floors was very slow, and at one point, the doors didn't open for some time when we were waiting to exit. On balance, we would stay there again, and the strong point is the excellent and helpful hotel staff who made our stay more enjoyable.

Very good 3 star hotel. The Asian Lady at Late Check-in was very friendly and helpful. The old ladies in the morning can neither say good morning nor smile. Apart from that it was a nice stay in a probably former royal hotel. The hotel looks very special and in classic old design. We liked it. The room was huge, good for our 2 big suitcases. The restaurant has really bad reviews. So we checked the menu and as stated in the reviews, the manager is not friendly at all. And when we saw the prices, we did not take the risk. There are many nicer restaurants around.

An old and historic hotel that has been allowed by its owners to decay. The older staff have a tendency to rudeness and lack of customer focus while younger staff are full of energy but do not have any apparent leadership from the owners or …

Grand old hotel. Excellent location for us nect to the train station and shopping. Lovely staff. Breakfast was excellent. Twin room a bit squashy. There was no fan in the bathroom, so steam was an issue. Restaurant had good food and ran efficiently.

At first when you checkin it gives a false impression because the lobby is beautiful. Once you get your room it’s another story . The rooms need updating they are very old and worn out. Toilet didn’t flush.  …

Horrific! We booked a classic twin room and we were given a cosy double. I had called the hotel the previous day when booking to ensure I was given a twin room. The room was small, outdated, the bed was totally unsuitable. …
