TL;DR Terrible 1st time experience, except for the view and the gym. Would not recommend.Concierge and Location: This was the only excellent part about the hotel. Concierge would try their absolute best to make your stay pleasant. The view from your hotel room is the golf course and the beach. Both are within a 10 minute walk. Hard to beat.Rooms: We had a room on the third floor. The worst floor. Above the 3rd floor is a roof top bar and we heard lots and lots of footsteps, staff moving large objects, and this was all during bed time. We couldn't do another night of that, so we luckily got to switch to a room on the second floor. Instead of loud noises at bed time, we got loud noises in the morning. The beds were pretty uncomfortable. Lots of tossing and turning. Super duper firm. Bathrooms were not adequately lit. They were lit for a mood, but not enough to see myself in the mirror. It was like I was in a horror movie. If you don't have a privacy placard up, a lady comes in your room in the morning to check if you took anything from the mini fridge.Restaurant: worst hotel restaurant. No cap. Staff turned us away for lunch for no reason, spoke to concierge and then we were able to eat lunch in the hotel.Other times, we ate breakfast and hot food items were served stone cold. Some of the dinning chairs were actual torture devices. I had to get up and stretch every 15 minutes.Gym: Gym is amazing. I loved it. Row machine, treadmill, plenty of towels.

If you are expecting stellar service, perhaps consider an alternative option. To touch on the exceptions first, the young blonde lady and the young south asian man were friendly, attentive and polite. The rest acted as if serving us caused them extreme inconvenience. We had afternoon tea. The tea was great. The food was good. The sweet was better than the savoury, with the scones, blackberry mousse tart and pistachio brownie being excellent. The savoury was a little dry in places, but a lot of it came down to personal taste. The location is beautiful, and would benefit from charismatic, exciting and organised service. Smiles and politeness goes a long way in helping guests overlook small problems, and barring the two exceptions I mentioned, that really didn’t happen.

Great Hotel and great staff in the main . Excellent location and very luxurious. |This is 3rd stay here and the only negative was visiting the rooftop bar. Was very unwelcoming to a hotel resident. …

very nice hotel, probably an amazing location if you play golf. We went for a visit at St Andrews University and it seemed too pricey for a very small room. Matress was terribly soft and pillow was dirty. restaurant was very good food with OK service

Best place to stay in St Andrews! We stayed here several times when visiting our son who studied at the university. What stood out the most were the super cozy rooms, the atmosphere especially around the holiday season, proximity to everything, the yummy breakfast, the 18 restaurant, the pub downstairs. Oh and the service is top notch.

The hotel itself is lovely and historic with beautiful views of St Andrews Old course and the sea. Our stay was very disappointing. The room was nice and comfortable but the shower didn’t work during our stay. The water would just turn off randomly mid shower and not turn back on. One time I had to get out and fill the tub in order to rinse the soap out of my hair. We told the front desk staff multiple times and they assured us it would be fixed but it wasn’t until our last morning. I think a working shower when you pay premium prices is not asking for too much. The hotel offered nothing for the huge inconvenience. We likely won’t stay here again

Ate at the 18 restaurant within the hotel. Food excellent but service shocking. Young staff who are more interested in talking and sitting on their phones then providing good quality service. Chewing gum stuck under tables. Highly disappointing meal. For the price; much better options in St Andrews.
