What a lovely hidden gem! Really pleased found this online before we came to the area. Warm welcome, friendly owner & very helpful. We had a nice brew before going for a wander to the summit with its beautiful views. Then headed back for our sarnies joined by the cheeky chickens, muffins & takeaway treats of jam plus delicious pork pies. Very relaxing place not to be missed.

What can I say.We absolutely loved our stay here.Jayne and Chris were the perfect hosts. We were looking for some peace and quiet and we found something even better. The hut was perfect for what we needed.Managed to have several unintelligent conversations with the Alpacas which Jane also kindly allowed us to feed. Got to meet Donald and Trump the lovely pigs and had several walks in the area (the nature reserve next door is a must)If you are looking peace and tranquility in these crazy times coupled with excellent excellent hosts then look no further.

We stayed in the Hick's hut last week for three nights as a last-minute getaway and had the most idyllic retreat! We arrived early to make the most of the tea hut for coffee and soup, where they also sell lots of gorgeous homegrown and homemade products like jams, chutneys, cordial, glazes, toiletries and beeswax candles. The atmosphere is really nice with locals popping in and lots of lively conversation. The site is situated just next to a nature park with a great little climb to the top of the hill with stunning views of the valley. There's also a rope swing if you fancy feeling like a ten year old again! Chrisand Jane were both really helpful with directions and alternative routes to explore. The hut itself was great - it had been thoroughly cleaned to meet Coronavirus standards, and there was everything we needed. It's tucked away at the end of the meadow, so it feels very private. There was an incredible thunderstorm one night, which was amazing to experience in the hut, but we felt really safe. It was the perfect place to reconnect, forget about 2020, read and switch off from our phones and the internet.Last but not least, it's the friendly chickens and alpacas that really made our stay. The alpacas like to poke their heads out the cave on the hillside behind the hut, which was very amusing! We'd love to be back in the future and highly recommend it.

Review for staying in Hicks Hut:This wonderful and friendly host was in contact with us from start to finish and provided us with a perfect stay and everything we needed. It's not often that you will find a shepherds hut at this price that doesn't charge you extra for fire wood or randomly runs out of electricity because the solar panel is the size of a dinner plate. Theres even a toilet and proper shower inside so you dont have to run out in the cold in your pjs to use the facilities. The hut is made wonderfully warm with only a few logs on the wood burner (which might i add is very easy to use compared to some others I have come across) and the bed is comfortable with ample pillows provided. Its even connected to mains water so you can do the washing up and fill up your water bottles without fear of running out. The location of the hut felt really private and we loved watching the alpacas explore their field and cave. We even got to interact with the baby lambs and the friendly ginger cat. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or to reccomend it to anyone. I would also say, dont pass up the breakfast hamper, even if you are vegan, the coffee from the little coffee hut is great and much cheaper than in town, go on the walk to the nature reserve you wont regret it!, The local pub is great and dont pass up the opportunity to purchase some of the lovely ffynnon beuno produce to take home. I bought 2 ales and the apple and orange blossom jam and my friend bought the slow gin and the local honey, all were excellent.

In such a magical part of Wales, with its cosy accomodation and hosts who instantly made us feel at home. The attention given to us if required and the dedication of our hosts to preserve the natural magic of this little haven. We would not fail to recommend it to others. The tranquillity, lovely walks and even a perfect little tea shop on site make this an ideal retreat from the chaos of everyday life.

An ancient holywell of St Beuno. There is self-catering accommodation on site and teas and coffees are served in summer. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable on the local history. At one time H M Stanley (of "Livingstone, I presume" fame) lived in the house.

Thank you Jane and Chris for a fabulous break, high light being seeing the lambs at just 3 hours old! Fantastic hosts, Conwy and Chester definately worth a visit, and also the Cafe on the corner for breakfast and the Piccadilly Inn for dinner.
