I have no hesitation in giving Karen and Mark (and Poppy), of the New White Lion, a 5 star review. The B&B was a home from home - communal areas were warm and welcoming (with drinks and homemade snacks available at all times), the dining room was stylish and my bedroom was so lovely that I took a little video and sent it to my daughter.I checked, ahead of time, if there would be vegan food available and, I can honestly say, it was some of the best food I have experienced. Karen is a wonderful chef, using local ingredients and cooking everything from scratch and Mark is the perfect host.I recommend this B&B fully and would love to return next time I visit the Brecon Beacons are of Wales.

The hosts were fantastic and welcoming and served up some wonderful cuisine. This is a little gem of a place and I can highly recommend it. 5 stars

The New White Lion – hosts with heart and a special hotelAt the New White Lion in Llandovery, guests immediately feel welcome - and this is mainly due to the warm hosts Karen and Mark. Both create an atmosphere that goes far beyond what you would expect from a hotel. It feels like you're visiting old friends. Marc in particular offers guests an unobtrusive and modern way to contact him via WhatsApp if they have any questions or requests - a practical and contemporary solution that is very much appreciated. The hotel itself is a small boutique gem, with each room individually designed. Each of the six themed rooms is lovingly decorated and tells a story from Welsh folklore. Our room, the Lady of the Lake, was a real highlight – full of little anecdotes and stories, perfectly coordinated. There was even a book in the room about the legend that inspired us to do the hike to Lady of the Lake - a recommendation from Mark that turned out to be totally worth it.The common areas are just as charming as the rooms. They are more reminiscent of a cozy living room than a hotel lobby area. The attention to detail is noticeable in every corner - from the stylish furniture to the decorations, which may seem a bit kitschy, but that's exactly what makes it so charming. Here you can sit down with other guests after a long day and chat in a relaxed atmosphere. The small bar offers everything you need to end the evening comfortably, without the pretensions of a large hotel bar, but rather in a family style - but still with a good selection.Breakfast is another strength of the house. Karen bakes the bread herself and it tastes wonderful. The English breakfast is excellently prepared, even for guests who don't normally think much of a typical English breakfast. She even managed to make the black pudding tasty - an achievement, as the thought of black pudding is rather off-putting to me. Nevertheless, I gave it a try and I have to say it was a special experience, although not one I would repeat - but the way Karen and Mark talked me into it was just too charming.Mark, on the other hand, is the perfect contact when it comes to hikes and excursions in the area. He knows the area like the back of his hand and gives great recommendations for hikes, like the one to Lady of the Lake, which we absolutely loved. His advice is not only informative but also incredibly personal - you can tell he's genuinely interested in ensuring his guests get the most out of their stay.As far as practicality is concerned, the hotel offers its own parking space directly behind the house, which makes arriving and leaving much easier. The central location in Llandovery is also ideal for exploring the surrounding area. Conclusion: The New White Lion is the perfect address when exploring the Brecon Beacons. It offers a warm atmosphere, lovingly furnished rooms, excellent breakfast and service that goes far beyond what you would otherwise find in hotels. We would come back at any time and can only recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a special stay in Wales. Brecon Beacons number 1, we can definitely say that!
