This is an oasis. The friendliest of welcomes, we felt at home and relaxed as soon as we walked in. What a delightful setting. The beautiful gardens and adjoining land are an escape from the real world. …

A delightful house set in rural Essex in the village of Peldon. We stayed in the blue room which overlooked the cottage garden. …

A little delayed in our review but the memory of the stay has not diminished. Our experience echoes the previous review. Andrew is an Ace of the Aga; breakfasts were an experience of delight and between them, Nicky and Andrew are perfect hosts. Nicky's knowledge and sharing of the garden is a pleasure to behold. We WILL return. Thank you so much for your hospitality and good luck with the digger project.

We had arranged to see some friends on Mersea island and decided at the last moment to find somewhere to stay for a couple of nights. We tried the usual suspects, chain hotels etc but they were too far from Mersea than we expected. We searched again and included B&B’s.We liked the look of Ransomes, and the really good reviews, and phoned to see if they had availability, Nicky answered the phone and confirmed that they had availability for their blue room.Upon arrival we were greeted by Andrew, who showed us around and explained a few things before heading off to get our breakfast ingredients from local producers. The house was immaculate, our room was perfect, very clean, everything worked, and a big comfortable bed. Tea and coffee facilities were just outside the room and included normal teas and coffees along with some very nice specialist teas etc.Directly outside the bedroom window are the bird feeders, with lots of different birds enjoying the selection of seeds, fat balls, etc. A lovely view with the backdrop of the amazing gardens. We soon ventured out to explore the gardens and the lake, before settling down with a cup of tea outside admiring the view and enjoying the sunshine. In the evening we headed out for a meal at a pub restaurant recommended by Andrew and had a very nice meal before heading back. The blue room has its own front door, so you don’t need to disturb Andrew or Nicky (unless you phone them by mistake that is!).Breakfast was simply amazing, cooked by Andrew on the Aga. There was also a what seemed to be a never-ending selection of cereals, jams and honey etc, the honey being from their own hives. We also had figs which were grown in their garden.Andrew and Nicky were perfect hosts, they made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble, and we would certainly stay there again. We certainly had a lucky escape by not ending up in a chain hotel.
