Me and my partner went there 2 years and a half ago but Google was asking me to review this place so here we go!I would have honestly avoided reviewing because the memories I have from that evening we arrived are one of the worst ones of my entire life. The place is really nice, comfortable (just a bit difficult to find but to be honest we arrived when it was pouring rain and dark so that was not helping) and you can see there is a lot of effort spent in caring about details. The garden with the pond is great and the area around the village is nice too. My problem is that this place is advertised as "dog friendly". For a place to be that, it should mean that not only the owners accept the presence of a dog, but that they take into consideration that not every dog is the same and some need a bit more patience. We went there with our dog which he is not friendly with other dogs, due to repeated traumas he had in the place he was living before. As a consequence, when the owner of the cottage called me a few days before the trip to make sure we were still going, I made sure to specify this. He assured me his 2 dogs were going to be kept away from our dog. This did not happen and one of the dogs got injured by him, before I had even the time to put the muzzle on him. The smallest dog came running in the dark towards my dog as soon as we came out of the car, caught us by complete surprise and my dog reacted by attacking. We had to spend 2 nights there (already prepaid) but we ended up staying one night only as we initially felt very shocked and out of place. The owners, altough understandibly shocked too, they went on specifying that we could have stayed there on that night if we wanted, as it was already dark and rainy which I found out of place to say, given that we obviously would have stayed there at least 1 night. My partner paid in full the vet expenses the day after and off we go. Needless to say, we never got our money back from the second night we never used. For these reasons, the place gets a 2/5 . If I could rate the place itself it would get at least a 4/5 but as an experience overall honestly a 0, as it was deeply traumatising and I felt like the owners did not even try to give us the money of the second night back.I would not recommend this place if you have a dog that is not friendly with other dogs.

We have traveled a lot and stayed in many hotels but, when we arrived at Shoyswell Cottage, we had the feeling of having arrived at the top, it seems like a place straight out of the pen of Lewis Carroll. We will never stop thanking Lisa who made us discover it and above all the owners because they finally gave us the answer to the question we are often asked: "What is the most beautiful place you have been?"

What a delightful, friendly, comfortable & relaxing place to stay. The rooms are both incredibly well designed & comfortable. The hosts are warm & welcoming. Set in large garden with small lake I imagine this would be a beautiful place to stay any time if the year. Reasonably priced too.
