What a lovely pub!We only visited for a couple of glasses of wine late Sunday afternoon… but we will certainly be back for lunch or dinner — perhaps even stay the night.Friendly and efficient service.Highly recommended.

Very nice restaurant, extremely good food. My only criticism is that not all costs are made clear on the menu. The separate service charge adds quite a lot, why can't it be included in the price on the menu since you can't order without paying it. The food is worth the cost but for those of us of more average means, it would be better to know the full cost we'll be paying

We drove up from Heathrow after arriving from overseas. GPS showed us some smaller A-roads which we decided to follow. It was like driving through a Jane Austen novel - rolling green countryside interspersed with some quaint ancient (everything is ancient to an Australian) villages. Worth the drive! The actual pub/hotel is located in a quintessential One-Pub English village. And what a lucky village they are. Welcomed to the amazingly authentic country house by young and enthusiastic staff to two beautifully decorated and well equipped rooms - perfect for a family of 5. We had some lovely drinks in the sunny courtyard before the sun retreated behind some unwelcome clouds and drove us inside to the pleasant pub - great environment to relax and unwind. Dinner at the hotel’s restaurant was also worth the trip alone. Great pub-fare but with a twist or two. Good portions as well. Nice having a kids menu that was of good quality. After a good nights sleep, we had a great breakfast - the Continental suited us nicely, simple but high quality and locally sourced. Additionally, good communication via email (not always a given), and some nice but not too intrusive IT solutions. A perfect start to our Southwest England trip, very grateful to Bjorn and his staff.

The most fantastic Sunday lunch I’ve ever had with wonderful service by friendly and professional staff! We loved the bloody Mary’s and freshly homemade horseradish sauce to complement perfectly cooked rare roast beef! …

Was really excited to come to this hotel but was quite disappointed. Mainly due to the restaurant and food. Limited menu which is fine if the food was tasty. We both had scallops for starter, which although cooked well it lacked flavour. The slaw it came with was incredibly bland. I ordered the Onglet which came recommended from ‘the maitre d’ - he said it was a really tasty cut of meat… Which to my disappointment was far from the truth. It was so tasteless, incredibly chewy and dry. The waitress that helped us was really lovely and swapped it for the fish. The fish although cooked well, again was lacking flavour. Ice cream was great.Beds were super comfortable, good pillows, lovely shower and nice air con. But just the food for us was below par.

Beautifully decorated dining room and accommodation. Incredibly peaceful and tranquil. Cosy, comfortable, and calm place to stay and eat. Warm and friendly staff. Excellent food (lamb rump) and cocktails (the bees knees - superbly made). No hesitation in recommending a visit for food, drinks and to stay over. Will be visiting again.

Came here for a birthday lunch. Simple but varied local and seasonal menu, relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and excellent service. Good value for money as it's a proper treat but without being pretentious. Would highly recommend.

- Really disappointing food and service for the most part.- Would advise against staying in the Den it’s not the most comfortable and we both struggled to sleep for different reasons.- Wouldn’t recommend the cooked breakfast which we sent back, or the burgers which were overcooked.- Inconsistency in the food and the service made the stay pretty average.- Our retrospective raising of issues was met with ‘sorry’ so unfortunately I wouldn’t return and won’t be recommending to friends who had this one on the list.

Everything about this place seems like it is going to be a 5 star situation. Aesthetically it is so wonderfully put together, cosy, amazing furniture, artwork, great drinks selection. But the food! It stands totally apart from everything else. When it first opened it was fantastic. A piece of cheesecake would be an actual slab of cheesecake with a generous dollop of compote rather than a deconstructed parfait with burnt biscuit crumbs and horribly vinegary apricots. My cod arrived both cold and overcooked and had clearly been sitting on the pass for a while. When I asked for it be made hot it was returned, rearranged and still not heated through. The risotto had been batch cooked and reheated making it pasty and bland, while the burger received a disappointed shrug from across the table. They are redeemed by serving Landrace bread and Brickells ice cream but sadly this has little to do with them. This was my last visit, as I have returned a few times hoping my trips have been off days for the kitchen but it seems to be consistently bad.I would certainly go again if they could return to the magic of their early days.
