We were initially booked into another hotel but were so disappointed with the room that we immediately checked out and chose The Castle, having dined there and enjoyed their BBQs in the past, though we had never stayed. …

We stayed for one night for my birthday and overall it was a nice experience. I appreciated the birthday note in our room. The whole building does feel like it needs a refresh as it felt quite dated and in places crumbly. The staff were friendly and helpful but forgot to tell us when check out was so we had to spend a bit of time finding the information.Location is great if you're looking for a spot close to the action in town.We found that the radiator in the bathroom wasn't able to be turned off and made the room very hot so a better heating control would've been appreciated.

I first stayed at The Castle with my family about 20 years ago and it was marvelous. I've stayed several more times over the years and watched this wonderful old hotel slip in service and quality. …

Our rooms were of good size across the group of us staying, very clean and well presented. Breakfasts ticked all the right boxes nicely.  …

Hotel stay - it was a nice old fashioned hotel with a spacious and comfy room. The only thing missing was a fridge in the room and aircon. ||Breakfast was nice but didn’t change daily. …

Whilst the outside of the building is quite amazing to look at when you arrive, the internal decoration requires modernisation. I stayed in a single room for one night and it was clean and functional. …

Stayed at hotel for 1 night and this was by far the worst hotel stay I've ever had. I travel a lot for work and have stayed at The Castle previously so I had an idea of what to expect. It's a little dated but central and close to where I needed to be.As I type this, I'm sitting in the room and hardly slept because of a horrible whooshing sound in the next room, like a washing machine or pump of some sort. Let's not forget the creaky floors upstairs which are not my neighbour's fault really.Eventually called reception around 5:30am about the whooshing noise and the gentleman said there shouldn't be a noise. He offered to come up and listen to investigate and I took him up on the offer. This was mostly so no one else goes through a sleepless night. He said he would be "2 minutes" and he never showed up!Now, I don't know much about hospitality but I do know that it's not an easy job so I am always polite and try to be understanding. When I do have an issue, I like that to be resolved, especially when there's money in exchange for a service. When my concerns are disregarded, it leaves me with no choice but to warn others as I am doing now. DO Not stay at this hotel if you want a good night's sleep. Stay at a bland chain hotel or a B&B because I can promise you that the rooms and service will be a lot better than this place.I usually stay with a team. Thankfully, I'm travelling alone on this occasion. I can certainly say this will be the last time I or any of the team will stay here.Such a shame really because, small hotels like this are worth supporting but The Castle have not made it easy to support. I hope they'll have better luck with someone else.

We stayed here last weekend for a wedding - it's a beautiful, luxuriant hotel with a wonderful atmosphere and very friendly staff. We had our toddler with us and all the staff were (genuinely) friendly and accommodating towards him. The food in the restaurant was great, the wedding itself was brilliantly organised, everything was wonderful. We would happily go back!

I was SO excited to stay here, but unfortunately the room was not as advertised. We booked a deluxe double room based on the pictures provided at booking. …
