Chinese-Style Spareribs

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon sake (or Chinese rice wine)

1 teaspoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

½ teaspoon grated fresh garlic

¼ teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder

1 pound pork spareribs

Prepare all necessary ingredients for the recipe.

In a shallow glass dish, combine hoisin sauce, ketchup, honey, soy sauce, sake, rice vinegar, lemon juice, grated ginger, minced garlic, and five-spice powder. Add the ribs, turning them to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate to marinate for 2 hours or overnight.

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Add enough water to a broiler tray to cover the bottom. Place a rack or grate over the tray, then arrange the ribs on top.

Bake the ribs in the preheated oven on the center rack for 40 minutes, turning and basting with the marinade every 10 minutes.

Allow the marinade to cook for the last 10 minutes, creating a glaze. For an extra crisp finish, broil the ribs. Discard any leftover marinade.
