Crispy Baked French Fries
Ingredients List
-
cooking spray
-
6 Yukon Gold potatoes, cut into thick fries
-
1 tablespoon white sugar
-
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder, or more to taste
-
1 teaspoon salt, or more to taste
-
1 teaspoon ground black pepper, or more to taste
Cooking Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly coat it with cooking spray.
Place the sliced potatoes in a colander and sprinkle with sugar. Let them sit for 20 to 30 minutes to release their moisture. Afterward, drain the liquid and pat the potatoes dry.
In a resealable plastic bag, combine the potato slices, olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Shake until the potatoes are evenly coated. Arrange the coated slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they’re not crowded.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Flip the fries and continue baking for an additional 20 minutes or until they’re golden and crispy.
Chef’s Tip
When cutting the potatoes, I first slice them lengthwise into 3 sections, then cut each section into 3 strips, creating 4 ovals in total.
Don’t skip the sugar! It helps draw out moisture from the potatoes, allowing them to crisp up beautifully in the oven.
