Crispy, Spiced Fried Tofu

1 (16 ounce) package extra-firm tofu, drained and pressed

2 cups vegetable broth

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

½ cup all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons nutritional yeast

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 teaspoon sage

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
Slice the pressed tofu into 1/2-inch thick pieces, then cut them into 1/2-inch wide sticks. Place the tofu in a bowl and pour vegetable broth over it. Let the tofu soak in the broth until ready to proceed.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, pepper, sage, and cayenne, and mix well.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
Take the tofu sticks out of the broth and gently press out most of the liquid, leaving some moisture. Coat each stick in the breading mixture, rolling them a second time if necessary to ensure an even dry coating. Fry the tofu in the hot oil until golden and crispy on all sides. Add more oil if needed to prevent sticking.
