Introducing Pookies: The 10-Minute Dessert Taking the Internet by Storm
If you missed out on the viral crookie (a mash-up of chocolate chip cookie and croissant), don’t worry—now’s your chance to get in on the latest internet food craze. Social media continues to deliver innovative recipes that combine beloved dishes, and this time, one creator has fused two classic comfort foods: chocolate chip cookies and pancakes.
You might be wondering... isn't that just chocolate chip pancakes? Not quite. It’s called the 'Pookie,' a hybrid dessert that’s already racked up 15.7 million views online. If you're a fan of breakfast or sweet treats, this 10-minute Pookie recipe will be your new favorite.
What Exactly Are Pookies?
The fluffiness and lightness of pancakes are undeniably their best feature. Meanwhile, chocolate chip cookies are known for their crispy edges and soft centers. Katja Jurgenschellert of @kayoukitchen originally intended to make a banana cookie, but her recipe turned into a perfect combination of both a cookie and a pancake. And thus, the Pookie was born.
In her Instagram caption, Jurgenschellert shares: 'It all began when I set out to make the easiest, no-fuss cookies. While testing the recipe, I accidentally created pookies, a hybrid of pancake and cookie.' The super simple recipe requires only a few ingredients and a blender.
How to Make Pookies
Since the original recipe uses European measurements, we’ve converted it to cups and tablespoons for convenience. You’ll need just six ingredients: 1 ripe banana, 1/3 cup medium dark chocolate (70-74% cacao), 1 egg, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 3/4 cup flour, and 1 teaspoon baking powder.
Feel free to swap maple syrup for the sugar, or choose your preferred type of chocolate (like milk or semi-sweet). If you’re using chocolate chips instead of bars, keep in mind they won’t blend or melt as smoothly inside the pookie.
Just blend all the ingredients together in a blender or food processor until fully mixed. Scoop the dough into circles using a spoon (it’s a bit runny, like pancake batter) and bake at 350°F for 8 minutes. Wait for the edges to turn golden and the center to rise before removing them from the oven. They should resemble a cross between pancakes and cookies in texture and appearance.
The Ultimate Way to Enjoy Pookies
Jurgenschellert paired her pookies with a cup of foamed milk to take the flavor up a notch—just dunk them like an Oreo and enjoy! If frothing milk isn’t your thing, a regular cup works just as well. One commenter even recommended cutting up the pookies and pouring milk over them to create a unique cereal. For an extra indulgent treat, you can make an ice cream sandwich by placing scoops of chocolate or vanilla ice cream between two pookies.
