Mom-Mom's Sweet Pepper Steak
Ingredients

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 green bell peppers, cut into strips

2 red bell peppers, cut into strips

1 ½ pounds round steak, cut into strips

1 onion, grated

1 cup crushed tomatoes

½ cup water

3 ½ teaspoons white sugar

salt and pepper to taste
Instructions

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the green and red peppers, and cook while stirring for about 10 minutes until soft. Remove the peppers and set aside.

Add the steak strips and grated onion to the skillet. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the steak is evenly browned and no longer pink in the middle. Return the peppers to the pan, then add the tomatoes, water, and sugar. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the steak is tender and the sauce has thickened.
