Combine garlic powder, seasoned salt, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and pepper in a small bowl and set it aside.
Food Studios by Dotdash Meredith
Pour one-third of a can of beer into the center of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place the open beer can upright in the middle of the dish.

Rinse the chicken under cold water. Remove the giblets and neck, then drain and pat the chicken dry. Position the whole chicken over the beer can, with its legs at the bottom.

Facing the chicken breasts, use a paring knife to make a small cut on each side. Tuck the tip of each wing into the slit to promote even cooking.
Food Studios by Dotdash Meredith
Rub the remaining seasoning mixture evenly over the entire chicken to taste.

Evenly sprinkle green onion slices over the chicken, letting some fall off. Press green onion halves into the top cavity. Open the second beer can, pour half of it into the pan, and set the remaining beer aside for later use during baking.

Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Pour the remaining beer into the pan beneath the chicken and continue baking until the meat is no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear—about 30 more minutes. The internal temperature should reach 180°F (82°C) when measured with an instant-read thermometer in the thickest part of the thigh, near the bone.

Remove the chicken from the oven and discard the beer can. Cover the chicken with a double layer of aluminum foil.
Food Studios by Dotdash Meredith
Allow the chicken to rest in a warm spot for 10 minutes before slicing.

Cook’s Tip
These are the seasonings my family prefers, but feel free to adjust or add more spices to suit your taste. Just be sure to coat the entire chicken with the seasoning mix.
