Sauerbraten with Round Steak
Ingredients Needed

1 ½ pounds top round steak, trimmed and sliced thin

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 (.75 ounce) packet dry brown gravy mix

2 cups water

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon brown sugar

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

¼ teaspoon ground ginger
-
1 bay leaf
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
ground black pepper to taste
Instructions

Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Brown the sliced steak well, then remove the meat from the pan. Add the gravy mix and water, stirring constantly until it begins to boil.

Add the onion powder, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, bay leaf, salt, and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Return the steak to the pan, lower the heat, cover, and simmer for 1 hour or until the meat becomes tender. Remove the bay leaf before serving.

Tip: You can also bake the dish covered at 350°F (175°C) for 1 1/2 hours in a casserole dish.
