Massage the spice blend into the ribs, then cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the sauce: Mix apple juice, brown sugar, and BBQ sauce together until fully combined. Set aside.

Unwrap the ribs and place them in a single layer on the smoker's wire racks. Insert the racks into the smoker, add apple, grape, pear, or cherry wood chips to the smoker pan, and preheat the smoker to 270°F (130°C). Smoke the ribs for 1 hour.

Brush the ribs with sauce and continue cooking, basting every 30 to 40 minutes, until the meat turns golden and pulls back from the bones, about 3 to 4 hours.
