One of the best ways to get familiar with the landscape is to reach the summit of Banff’s Sulphur Mountain (2451m/8041ft). You can tackle the 5.5km (3.4-mile) alpine switchback trail starting from the Upper Hot Springs parking lot, or you can ascend quickly in the Banff Gondola, which takes only eight minutes. While enjoying the rooftop observation deck, you’ll be rewarded with views of six snowy mountain ranges and expansive sights of the Bow Valley and the town of Banff below. 2. Embark on an ice walk in Johnston Canyon

Johnston Canyon is also a favorite spot for ice climbing, so you might spot climbers scaling the icefalls while you traverse the icy paths and catwalks.
