A comprehensive guide for wheelchair users to Morgan’s Wonderland and Morgan’s Inspiration Island

For those who rely on a wheelchair for mobility, visiting theme parks can often be frustrating. Finding rides that everyone in the family can enjoy together can lead to disappointment, but that’s not the case at Morgan's Wonderland.
Morgan's Wonderland, located in San Antonio, TX, is the first theme park of its kind in the world. Covering 25 acres, it features 25 attractions that are fully accessible, including rides, playgrounds, and interactive experiences. The best part? Entry is completely free for individuals with special needs. How could it possibly get any better?
The concept of this highly accessible theme park came from a father's desire for his daughter to feel "included". Gordon Hartman, the visionary behind the park, named it after his daughter, Morgan. And indeed, it is a true Wonderland!

As you enter the park, the first stunning sight you’ll encounter is the 25-foot-tall sculpture named Taking Flight. This artwork features two enormous bronzed hands reaching skyward, cradling a butterfly as it takes off. The butterfly’s ascent symbolizes the freedom you’ll feel as you navigate a park designed without limitations. Experiencing rides alongside your family and friends while remaining in your wheelchair is an unparalleled joy, especially after feeling separated in many other theme parks.
On the Off-Road Adventure Ride, you can drive your wheelchair onto a sporty off-road vehicle that takes you along a twisting, turning track. This ride offers a glimpse of other areas of the park, helping you decide what to explore next.
There’s also a vibrant carousel measuring 36 feet in diameter, featuring specially designed "chariots" that allow wheelchair users to enjoy the up-and-down motion just like everyone else. Don’t miss The Whirling Wonder, a colorful Ferris wheel that provides a panoramic view of the park from its impressive height of five and a half stories. It features 12 gondolas that are accessible to both children and adults, ensuring all are welcome.
When it's time for a break, visit the Interactive Experiences Sensory Village. This whimsical community promotes imaginative play. Here, you can try The Auto Fix-It Shop for a simulated test drive right from your wheelchair. The Village Market grocery store offers an imaginative shopping experience, complete with shopping carts, a checkout area, and play food. Plus, you can even participate in a weather forecast segment and see yourself on the screen.
Gather the whole family for a leisurely ride on the Wonderland Express. This delightful train ride features multiple railcars equipped with specially designed, wheelchair-accessible ramps. Enjoy a scenic tour around the park, including views of the eight-acre lake. At the lake, explore The Wharf, where you can partake in catch-and-release fishing, fire water cannons at targets, and pilot remote-controlled pirate ships—all while staying comfortably in your wheelchair for these exciting activities.
Four exciting areas you won’t want to miss include the Wheelchair Swings, Waterworks, The Butterfly Playground, and the Sand Circle. Here, you can enjoy swinging with adaptive wheelchair swings that allow your chair to roll right up and swing alongside your friends. You can also splash around in 10 interactive play elements and create sand sculptures using wheelchair-accessible diggers.
Take a moment to recharge with lunch at one of the three dining options available on-site. There’s also a spacious picnic area equipped with plenty of tables for everyone. However, you won’t linger here for long—there’s still so much more to explore!
Morgan's Inspiration Island
Adjacent to the theme park is another incredible area called Morgan's Inspiration Island that you simply cannot overlook! It’s conveniently located right next to Morgan's Wonderland, allowing you to experience both parks in one day.
Morgan's Inspiration Island is a fully accessible water park featuring a wheelchair valet service that will make you feel truly pampered. Here, you can transfer to a specially designed waterproof, oxygen-powered wheelchair. This chair operates with a joystick, just like a standard power wheelchair, but since it’s oxygen-powered, you won’t have to worry about damaging your chair. There are also manual waterproof chairs available to suit your preferences and needs.
To ensure a smooth transfer into the waterproof chairs, accessible changing rooms are available, complete with adult-sized changing tables and lifts for easy mobility. There are also lockers and plenty of helpful staff members to enhance your experience throughout the day.
Once you’re settled in your waterproof chair, head over to Rainbow Reef. This splash pad features warmed water, catering to those who may experience muscle pain in cold water. Enjoy the attractions, including a giant spouting octopus, starfish, sea turtles, and six squirting seahorses, along with a variety of geysers for a splashing good time.
Next, enjoy the sounds at Calypso Cove, a musical garden splash pad equipped with instruments like drums and xylophones to spark your creativity while you splash around. If you’re still in the mood for more water fun, make your way to Shipwreck Island, where a massive accessible pirate ship awaits. You can roll onto it or sit beside it and get drenched by a giant water dumping bucket. If you're somehow still dry, you and your friends can drench each other using the large water cannons positioned on the sides of the ship.
After spending a day or two (or even three) at these wonderfully accessible theme parks, you’ll leave with memories that will last a lifetime. You’ll cherish the moments shared with family and friends, feeling completely included and equal as you enjoyed the experiences right from the comfort of your wheelchair.
