According to J.D. Power's 2024 rankings, these are the finest airports in North America.

Despite a hectic and costly year for travel, marked by unprecedented crowds and increasing prices, a new J.D. Power report reveals that travelers continue to enjoy their journeys—particularly through some of the nation's top airports.
This year, the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California, and Indianapolis International Airport (IND) have topped their categories in the 2024 North America Airport Satisfaction Study conducted by J.D. Power.
In the 'mega' airport category—defined by J.D. Power as those with 33 million or more passengers annually—MSP secured the top position with a score of 671 on a scale of 1,000.
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) came in second place in the mega category, achieving 643 points, while Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) followed closely in third with a score of 633.

At the bottom of the mega list, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) has ranked in last place for three consecutive years, earning a score of 552.
In the 'large' airport category, which encompasses those serving 10 million to 32.9 million passengers annually, SNA took the lead, followed by Tampa International Airport (TPA) in second place and Missouri's Kansas City International Airport (MCI) in third.
IND achieved the highest rating in the 'medium' airport category, defined by J.D. Power as those with 4.5 million to 9.9 million passengers each year.
Travel advantages: 9 domestic lounges you should visit at all costs
J.D. Power uses a scoring system with a maximum of 1,000 points, based on surveys from 26,290 travelers in the U.S. and Canada conducted between August 2023 and July 2024. These surveys address seven key factors: ease of travel, trust in the airport, terminal amenities, staff performance, ground departure experience, food and retail options, and arrival or transit experiences.
Despite various challenges this year, J.D. Power found that airports generally performed well amid record passenger numbers; 60% of surveyed travelers reported positive experiences at the airport, and 59% felt that airports helped "ease the stress of travel."
However, it's worth noting that passengers are spending less on average within the terminals, indicating that rising prices are affecting consumer behavior even as more people are vacationing.
"The demand for air travel in North America remains robust, even as the costs for flights, ground transportation, hotel accommodations, and airport purchases continue to rise," stated Michael Taylor, J.D. Power's managing director of travel, hospitality, and retail. "While most travelers are still enjoying their experiences, we are witnessing a tipping point in spending, with average expenditures per person in terminals dropping significantly compared to last year."
