St. George's Island in Bermuda hosts the oldest continuously inhabited English settlement in the Western Hemisphere. In 1609, the English ship Sea Venture, destined for the Jamestown Colony, ran aground near St. George's Island. A permanent community was founded in 1612. Today, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring historic churches, forts, and museums.
Visiting the settlement today feels like a journey back in time. Wander through narrow, cobblestone lanes with early-English names such as “Shinbone Alley” and “Needle & Thread Alley.” The first necessities for a 17th century settlement were a church and a fort, both of which are present on St. George's Island.
St. Peter’s Church, established in 1612, boasts over 400 years of history as the oldest Anglican Church in the Americas. Today, visitors can admire the altar crafted from hand-carved red cedar, candlelit chandeliers, an 18th century throne retrieved from a shipwreck, and communion silver believed to be over 900 years old, a gift from King William III in 1697. The church’s graveyard features headstones that date back 300 years.
Constructed in 1614, Fort St. Catherine was built to protect against invaders and pirates. It overlooks the pink sand beach where settlers from the Sea Venture landed in 1609. Now fully restored, the fort offers stunning views from its towering ramparts and invites visitors to explore its towers, historic artillery, and the tunnels carved into the ground.

A popular location for photographs and weddings on St. George Island is the Unfinished Church. Construction began in 1874, but after a tornado ripped off the roof in 1925, the project was halted and the church was never completed.
Bermuda has much more to offer than just St. George. To experience the island’s beauty, don’t miss Horseshoe Bay. Its pink sands and warm waters consistently rank it among the most beautiful beaches in the world. With calm waters and lifeguards present, it’s a perfect spot for families.
The Royal Navy Dockyard, once the base for the British Royal Navy, has been transformed into a vibrant area filled with restaurants, shops, and artist studios. It serves as the island’s shopping hub and houses the National Museum of Bermuda, which features exhibits on the island’s rich history, including shipwrecks and battles.

In 1907, two boys playing cricket stumbled upon a small opening in the ground that was emitting warm air. This discovery led to the unveiling of the Crystal Caves, a stunning geological marvel featuring white and pink stalactites towering over clear blue waters, formed over 30 million years ago. Visitors are treated to a vibrant showcase of underground caverns.
No island experience would be complete without sea life, and one of the oldest and most esteemed aquariums in the world is the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo. Its impressive 140,000-gallon tank is home to over 200 fish species and one of the largest living coral collections worldwide.
Next to the aquarium, you’ll find the museum and zoo. The Natural History Museum offers insights into Bermuda's ecology and geology, while the Zoo houses more than 300 birds, reptiles, and mammals, including species from the Galapagos and Madagascar.

There's no shortage of adventures awaiting you on a cruise to stunning Bermuda. Choose your escapade and dive right in—even if your idea of adventure is lounging on the beach soaking up the sun.
