Alaska Airlines Expands Mexico Service with New Flights to La Paz and Monterrey
Alaska Airlines is enhancing its presence in Mexico by introducing two new nonstop routes for the winter season.
In November, the Seattle-based airline will initiate service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to La Paz International Airport (LAP), offering up to three round trips per week. Alaska will be the sole U.S. airline operating flights to La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur, located approximately 100 miles north of the popular Los Cabos area.
In February, Alaska will launch daily nonstop flights from LAX to Monterrey International Airport (MTY), adding to the roster of airlines serving this city from the U.S.
Route Overview
Here are the specifics regarding Alaska's two new routes:
- LAX-LAP — starting Nov. 20, operating two to three times a week
- LAX-MTY — commencing Feb. 13, 2025; operating daily
Both routes will utilize Embraer E175 aircraft, which offer 12 first-class seats, 16 in Alaska's Premium class, and 48 in the main cabin.
Monterrey Service
With the launch of service to Monterrey, Alaska will join several U.S. and Mexican airlines providing nonstop flights from that city to the U.S.
The "Big Three" U.S. airlines—American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines—all provide flights from Monterrey to their respective hubs. Additionally, Aeromexico offers nonstop service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), which is the home base of its joint-venture partner, Delta.
Mexican low-cost airline Viva Aerobus also operates flights to nearly a dozen U.S. cities from Monterrey, according to Cirium.
La Paz Service
While this La Paz route is new for Alaska, the airline has previously flown to the city.
Alaska last serviced La Paz in 2013, with its regional partner Horizon Air operating a Dash 8 turboprop at that time, as per data from aviation analytics company Cirium.

The city is waterfront and features several hotels where you can redeem points, including a recently opened property and another that will be available soon.
For travelers with IHG One Rewards points, the newly opened 115-room Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortes, which launched in January, boasts a spa, infinity pool, beach club, and two restaurants. It is part of the Hotel Indigo brand's rapid global expansion.
In addition, the 90-room Perla La Paz will soon become part of Hilton's Tapestry Collection following a $10 million renovation of the historic property from the 1940s. The hotel is expected to open in January, as per Hilton's booking system.
Final thoughts
With the addition of these two routes, Alaska will provide flights to a total of 10 Mexican destinations from LAX starting in February, coinciding with peak winter travel season.
