American Express Reveals Plans for Its Next Centurion Lounge
Exciting news for Centurion Lounge enthusiasts—American Express has announced it will introduce its first popular lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
Currently, American Express operates 13 Centurion Lounges across the United States, with two located in New York at LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airports. Newark is the only major airport in the New York area lacking a Centurion Lounge.
The 17,000-square-foot lounge is expected to open in 2026 and will feature unique amenities, including an indoor terrace with views of the airfield and the Manhattan skyline, as well as a jazz bar and piano lounge.
“Jazz has been an integral part of New Jersey’s cultural heritage for decades, making the state a lively hub for jazz lovers both past and present,” stated American Express. “To honor this legacy, guests can enjoy a cocktail bar inspired by the 20th Century jazz scene in New Jersey, along with a piano lounge featuring live performances.”
The lounge will feature amenities that cardholders expect from Centurion Lounges, including locally sourced food and drink options, shower suites, dedicated workstations, multiple seating areas, high-speed Wi-Fi, and family-friendly spaces for those traveling with small children.
This new lounge will be located in Newark’s newly opened Terminal A, which launched in January 2023. Currently, there are three airline-specific lounges in Terminal A: an American Admirals Club, a Delta Sky Club, and a United Club.
Though the Newark lounge is still under development, Centurion will debut a location at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., later this year, followed by another lounge at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in 2024. Recently, American Express reopened revamped lounges in Seattle in 2023 and in San Francisco in 2022.
To gain access to this lounge upon its opening, along with the 40-plus locations in the American Express Global Lounge Collection, you’ll need an Amex card that grants lounge access. Eligible cards include the Platinum Card from American Express, the Business Platinum Card, the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card, and the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express Card. Corporate Platinum Card holders and Centurion members can also enjoy access to the Centurion lounge network.
