American Express to Launch Its First Centurion Lounge in Japan at Tokyo's Haneda Airport
The Centurion Lounge network is making its way to Japan thanks to American Express.
On Wednesday, the issuer announced to TPG that a Centurion Lounge will debut at Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND) in 2025, situated on the fourth floor of Terminal 3.
Amex hinted that the lounge will embody Japanese design principles, featuring local artwork and decor. Guests can also enjoy stunning airfield views through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows—let’s hope those windows aren't tinted to hinder any planespotting while you wait for your flight.
Covering approximately 7,400 square feet, the lounge will accommodate around 120 guests, making it one of the smallest in the Centurion Lounge network. This might not bode well for cardmembers accustomed to facing long wait times and overcrowding at U.S. locations, especially during peak travel seasons.
AMERICAN EXPRESS"We're excited to broaden our Centurion Lounge network in international airports, particularly in sought-after travel hotspots for our Card Members. With the rise in travel to Japan, especially among Millennials and Gen Z, the Centurion Lounge at Haneda Airport will play a crucial role in our global lounge offerings," stated Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, in a statement shared with TPG.
This new Centurion Lounge will mark American Express's second location in Asia, following the one in Hong Kong, and is just the third outside the U.S. The Centurion Lounge at London Heathrow (LHR) was launched in 2021. While Amex has rebranded some of its international lounges as Centurion Lounges, the ones in London and Hong Kong were specifically designed for Amex's premium cardholders from the start.
While Amex has yet to provide further details about the upcoming Tokyo lounge, we will keep this story updated as more information emerges.

Interestingly, Delta Air Lines recently launched a Sky Club at Haneda amid the coronavirus pandemic. Given Amex's partnership with Delta, it's possible the issuer identified valuable data that influenced its decision to secure lounge space in Tokyo.
Among credit card-branded lounges, Chase stands out as the only other issuer with an international venue. Notably, the world's first Sapphire Lounge by The Club debuted in Hong Kong in 2022.
The Centurion Lounge network is set to expand this year with a new location at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) near Washington, D.C. Additionally, Amex is planning to establish a lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), although the opening date remains unannounced.
The upcoming Newark lounge will be situated in Terminal A of the airport.
