An introductory guide to Naples, Florida
Nestled on the southeastern tip of the Florida peninsula, the charming coastal town of Naples is an excellent destination for your next weekend retreat, romantic escape, or family vacation.
With a variety of water sports, gourmet dining, and high-end shopping, Naples offers plenty to enjoy; however, its stunning beaches alone make it a perfect spot for relaxation, and the welcoming locals are eager to share their insider knowledge about the Paradise Coast.
Although Naples is known for housing some of the wealthiest individuals in the US, the cost of living here remains more reasonable than in other well-known Florida cities like Miami or Palm Beach. Contrary to beliefs about its diversity, I, as a Black woman, have always felt safe and embraced by the community.
Here’s everything you need to know to fully enjoy your first experience in Naples.

The optimal time to visit Naples is from March to May. During this period, it remains relatively peaceful as it hasn’t yet become a spring break hotspot. The weather is delightful, and accommodation prices are quite reasonable.
From June to September, Naples experiences high heat, with frequent rain and average temperatures exceeding 90ºF (32ºC), occasionally reaching over 100ºF (38ºC). If you travel during this season, remember to bring an umbrella, as hurricane season spans July to October. Is navigating Naples straightforward?
Naples is quite a walkable city in many areas, particularly around the lively 5th Ave South. For those interested in renting a car, it's easy to drive here without much traffic, and there are plenty of paid and free parking options available.
Based on my experience, rideshares are the most convenient option for getting around, especially for quick weekend trips. Uber usually has a fast pick-up time, with waits averaging three to five minutes, and fares typically range from $7 to $16 per ride.

Must-do activities in Naples
Discover the stunning beaches
The beaches of Southwest Florida truly live up to their reputation, boasting beautiful white-sand stretches. My top pick in Naples is definitely Clam Pass Park. It's free to enter (with a $10 parking fee) and is open daily from 8am to sunset. Upon arrival, you’ll walk down a three-quarter-mile wooden boardwalk, which is easily navigated via a complimentary tram service. The 35-acre beach is teeming with marine life and coastal birds, and offers plenty of activities such as nature walks and fishing.
While the beach chairs and umbrellas can be a bit pricey, this family-friendly beach features calm blue waters and is dotted with some of the most stunning seashells along the shore. Amenities include a snack bar, restrooms, bike racks, and foot showers. Remember to bring your own towels, as rentals are not available to the public; they are reserved for guests at beachfront resorts.
Other beaches worth visiting are Vanderbilt Beach, Tigertail Beach, and Marco Island Beach. For dog-friendly options, take your furry friend to Bonita Beach Dog Park, Gulfside City Park Beach, or Lighthouse Beach Park. Local beaches also offer various water activities such as parasailing, jet skiing, and dolphin watching.

The gardens also host regular family-friendly events and feature a restaurant called the Fogg Café with lovely garden views.
Throughout the year, you can enjoy popular festivals such as the Naples Seafood & Music Festival, the Naples Craft Beer Fest, and the Naples Downtown Art Fair.
Experience a boat tour
For an exciting local boating adventure, La Gondola provides private tours on authentic Venetian gondolas right in the heart of Naples—ideal for a romantic evening out. Another great choice is Naples Princess Cruises. Be sure to reserve your spot early, as these tours tend to fill up quickly.
Savor the culinary delights at Naples’ finest restaurants

As an avid cafe enthusiast, I love visiting coffee shops wherever I go to savor a good cup of joe with the locals. There's something about the atmosphere that makes me feel at home no matter where I am. EJ’s Bayfront Cafe offered a delightful and uncomplicated experience during my latest visit to Naples.
Although there's usually a brief wait to get a table, the menu is a brunch enthusiast's paradise, renowned for some of the best comfort food around. Located just steps from the ocean, it boasts ample outdoor seating. A crowd favorite is the banana-stuffed French toast, featuring thick challah bread filled with banana slices and dusted with cinnamon and sugar. The food comes out quickly, and the service is excellent.
What’s the budget for a trip to Naples?
Even though Naples ranks as one of the wealthiest towns in the U.S., travel accommodations are quite affordable, especially if you keep excursions to a minimum. The biggest expense will likely be shopping at local boutiques, particularly along 5th Ave South. Food and drink prices are reasonable, and most restaurants don’t add extra service charges.
You can easily arrange a two-night getaway for under $1000, which could include a roundtrip nonstop flight from New York City, for example.
Typical expenses:
Dinner for two: $80–215 (or more)
Brunch for two: $60–90+
Mid-range hotel during off-peak summer weekdays: $100–250+
Beer/pint at the bar: $7–10
Cocktail: $15–18
Ice cream: $6–8
