Budget travelers, celebrate: Low-cost airline Breeze Airways has revealed plans to add 13 airports and 25 routes across the United States for 2024, with more on the horizon, according to spokesperson Gareth Edmondson-Jones. Many of the new routes come with introductory fares starting as low as $59 one way.
But the new options cater not only to budget-minded travelers. The airline is also enhancing its premium seating with the introduction of Breeze Ascent, a first-class cabin on its new Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
Starting in May 2024, Breeze Airways will operate 150 routes connecting 49 cities in 27 states, focusing primarily on smaller cities in the southern and northeastern U.S., while also expanding in the West—San Diego being one of the new airports added. This marks a significant growth for an airline that began operations less than three years ago in May 2021.
So, where is Breeze headed next? In January, the airline announced new flight services from these 13 cities, with routes launching by May 2024:
- Burlington, Vermont
- Denver, Colorado
- Evansville, Indiana
- Grand Junction, Colorado
- Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina
- Gulfport/Biloxi, Mississippi
- Madison, Wisconsin
- Mobile, Alabama
- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
- Ogden, Utah
- San Diego, California
- Stewart/Newburgh, New York
- Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pennsylvania
San Diego will become Breeze’s fifth destination in California, joining existing services in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino, and San Francisco. The new nonstop routes from San Diego will launch to Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Norfolk, Raleigh-Durham, and Pittsburgh.

Breeze Airways is the fifth airline startup launched by David Neeleman, the founder of JetBlue Airways. The airline claims it can get you to your destination “in half the time, at half the price,” focusing on smaller airports that often lack nonstop service to various destinations.
The airline aims to attract travelers and shake up industry standards with features like no change or cancellation fees for adjustments made up to 15 minutes before departure, complimentary seat selection for families, and an “à la carte” pricing model that includes bundled options like checked baggage and upgraded seating. Passengers can select from “Nice,” “Nicer,” and “Nicest” ticket packages, offering more choices than typical low-cost, no-frills airlines.
Alongside the launch of new routes and destinations, Breeze is expanding its fleet. The airline plans to acquire a “new Airbus A220 approximately every month,” as stated by Edmondson-Jones, which will allow Breeze to enhance flight services to meet growing demand and explore new markets. The new Airbus A220-300 aircraft are being equipped with the Breeze Ascent first-class cabin (referred to as its “Nicest” class in their seating and pricing model), featuring newly designed seats, a spacious 2-2 configuration, complimentary snacks and drinks, and priority boarding. With this premium offering, Breeze positions itself above typical low-cost carriers. (Check out our recent review of what it’s like to fly first class with Breeze.)
Regardless of whether you opt for an upgrade, Breeze Airways’ bold move into the U.S. airline market with new airports and affordable fares is advantageous for all travelers. As seen in the blocked Spirit Airways–JetBlue merger court ruling, a similar “Spirit effect” is observed when a low-cost carrier enters a new market. In this case, Breeze applies downward pressure on airfare across the board. Current deals on the Breeze website showcase one-way fares as low as $30 in select markets.
