Earlier this month, Choice Privileges increased the point requirement for Preferred Hotels & Resorts stays to as much as 87,000 points per night. At that time, I was pleased to see that award nights at Choice Hotels properties still ranged from 6,000 to 35,000 points in most areas (except the Asia-Pacific region, where award nights can go up to 75,000 points).
However, this morning I observed that the Choice Privileges website no longer states that award nights cost between 6,000 and 35,000 points in most locations. Instead, these references now indicate that reward nights at participating Choice Hotels start at 8,000 Choice Privileges points.
When searching for Choice Privileges award nights, these elevated rates are now appearing. For instance, the Cambria Hotel Nashville Downtown now lists award rates of up to 45,000 points per night.

Several hotels in New York City are now priced at up to 45,000 points per night.

TPG reached out to Choice Privileges for their perspective on these adjustments.
Final thoughts
It's disheartening but not surprising to see Choice Privileges raise its 35,000-point ceiling for award nights. You'll still encounter many hotels with rates set at 25,000, 30,000, or 35,000 points per night. However, with the removal of the award pricing cap, I anticipate that more Choice Privileges properties will begin to charge higher rates than before.
At present, many Choice properties continue to offer rates as they have in the past. My favorite redemptions are still available from 8,000 points per night in Japan. Hotels in Rome remain at their previous pricing, and you can still find award nights in New York City for 25,000 or 30,000 points per night. If you have any upcoming reservations you've been considering, now is an excellent time to book before the award rates possibly rise.
