Delta Is Introducing Flights to Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean from These U.S. Airports
Following its announcement of new seasonal services from New York to Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, Delta Air Lines is further enhancing its offerings to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Atlanta-based airline has revealed plans to introduce additional seasonal flights from December 16, 2023, to January 7, 2024, marking the largest holiday schedule to Latin America in Delta's history, with expanded routes from key U.S. hubs to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America.
This increased capacity will provide travelers with more options and flexibility when booking flights during a peak travel period. Given the current 'sticker shock' associated with international airfares, securing holiday seats sooner is advantageous. The additional flights may also facilitate easier rebooking for passengers if the 2023 holiday season faces disruptions similar to those in 2022.
Here’s an overview of the new routes Delta intends to operate to Latin America later this year.
More Delta Flights from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)

- Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), Dominican Republic: doubling from one to two daily flights

- Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA), Aruba: increasing from one to two daily flights
- Cancun International Airport (CUN), Mexico: rising from six to seven flights per day
- Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, Costa Rica: increasing from one to two flights daily
- San Jose International Airport (SJO), Costa Rica: rising from one to two daily flights
- Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, Jamaica: increasing from four to five flights each day

Delta is also introducing more flights from additional U.S. airports
Several other airports will experience increased flight frequency in December 2023 and January 2024 as well.
- Detroit’s Metropolitan Wayne County Airport will now offer four daily flights to Mexico’s Cancun International Airport (up from three).
- Delta will resume year-round service to Mexico’s Cozumel International Airport (CZM) from Atlanta (daily starting November 5) and from Minneapolis (three times a week starting December 16) for the first time since March 2020.
Delta’s Continued International Expansion
Delta's enhancement of services to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America is part of a broader global route expansion for the airline. Earlier this year, Delta announced a new nonstop route between Los Angeles and Auckland, New Zealand, making it the only U.S. carrier on this long-haul service when it launches on October 28, 2023.
The airline has also introduced a new flight connecting JFK with Geneva, Switzerland, as well as service from JFK to London Gatwick, alongside increased operations to various European destinations, including Paris, Rome, and Berlin.
