How the Voting Process Works
Each year, for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences worldwide—offering insights on the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. This year, over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the 2024 survey, casting over 700,000 votes across more than 8,700 properties, including hotels, cities, and cruise lines.
Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges based on their location and amenities, and were specifically assessed according to the following criteria:
- Room and facilities
- Location
- Service quality
- Culinary offerings
- Value for money
Respondents rated each characteristic as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores reflect the average of these ratings.
What Readers Appreciated
In anticipation of this summer’s Olympic Games, Paris has welcomed a wave of trendy new hotel openings—from the Japanese-inspired Hotel Hana to the extravagant Le Grand Mazarin.
However, this year’s survey suggests that travelers remain enamored with the city’s iconic grand hotels, particularly those located in or around the Golden Triangle. Notable exceptions include our runner-up, Hôtel Lutetia, the only “palace” hotel on Paris’s Left Bank. Half of this year’s winning hotels also appeared on last year's list, including Ritz Paris (No. 3), Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel (No. 5), Le Bristol Paris, Oetker Collection (No. 6), Four Seasons Hotel George V (No. 9), and Grand Hotel du Palais Royal (No. 10). This year also saw the introduction of newcomers like Hotel Grand Powers (No. 8), a 1920s icon near the Champs-Élysées. “This is a true gem,” one reader remarked about the property, which underwent a major renovation five years ago. “It’s a charming boutique hotel with stunning décor and modern design.” The biggest surprise, however, is our winner, Mandarin Oriental, Paris, which dropped off last year's list only to reclaim the No. 1 position this year.
The Champion
Mandarin Oriental, Paris

While the building itself dates back to the 14th century, its interiors are refreshingly modern, opting for a luxurious but understated aesthetic instead of the opulent grandeur of Versailles. Despite its prime location in the 1st arrondissement, the hotel offers a tranquil retreat, featuring a serene courtyard garden that’s open all year round, thoughtful touches like a pillow menu (rose-scented goose down, anyone?), and a spa that embodies the Mandarin Oriental brand, complete with a 45-foot indoor pool and rejuvenating treatments for jetlag. “The spa is a must-visit,” one guest enthusiastically shared.
