Understanding the Voting Process
Annually, for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences worldwide—offering their insights on the finest hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. This year, over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the 2024 survey, casting more than 700,000 votes across 8,700+ properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges according to their location and available amenities, and they were specifically evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Rooms/Facilities
- Location
- Service
- Dining
- Value for Money
Respondents rated each characteristic as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are derived from the average of these ratings.
Highlights from Our Readers
The South Carolina Lowcountry, featuring Charleston, Hilton Head Island, and numerous charming beach towns along 187 miles of coast, is renowned for its exceptional golf resorts, waterfront properties, and even a Disney hotel. This year, our readers expressed their admiration for The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort (No. 3) — hailed as 'Southern charm at its finest' by one guest — and the 'timeless and private' Montage Palmetto Bluff (No. 2). Notably, several top-ranking hotels hail from the Upstate region. The Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, part of the Autograph Collection (No. 4), opened its doors in downtown Greenville in 2022, earning praise for its prime location just steps away from Reedy River Falls and Main Street’s local shops and dining options. Meanwhile, the newly opened Hotel Hartness, which started welcoming guests in 2023, has already claimed the title of this year’s No. 1 resort in South Carolina among our readers.
