Dinogo Readers' Top 20 Resorts in Hawaii for 2024

Readers of Dinogo discovered stunning landscapes, rich culture, and thrilling adventures across five islands in this year's World’s Best Awards survey, reaffirming that this archipelago remains one of the most versatile vacation spots worldwide. From Oahu to Lanai, they shared their favorite resort experiences.

Understanding the Voting Process

Each year, for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their insights on travel experiences globally, offering their perspectives on top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. In 2024, over 186,000 T+L readers participated, casting more than 700,000 votes across over 8,700 properties, including hotels, cities, cruise lines, and others.

Properties were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges according to their location and amenities, and they were rated based on the following criteria:

For each feature, respondents had the option to rate it as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The overall scores are calculated based on the averages of these ratings.

What Captivated Our Readers

T+L readers discovered their preferred Hawaiian resorts located across the islands of Maui, Oahu, Hawaii, Lanai, and Kauai.

Numerous perennial favorites from Oahu appeared on the list, including Turtle Bay Resort, Halekulani, and the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina. The Kahala Hotel & Resort, last year's No. 20, has impressively climbed to No. 3. “My top hotel in Hawaii, and I've visited every island,” one T+L reader enthused. On the island of Hawaii, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is back at No. 17 (down from No. 14), while Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection rises from No. 4 to No. 6.

On Maui, Hotel Wailea continues to impress, clinching the No. 2 position (slipping one spot from last year’s prized No. 1), with readers exclaiming: “This hotel is a dream,” as one guest remarked. This year’s top honor, however, is awarded to the much-lauded Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort, an 81-acre beachfront haven that originally opened in the 1960s and had fallen into disrepair after a tsunami hit in 2011; Rosewood brought it back to life in 2023.

Founded in 1965 by Johnno and Helen Jackson, the beloved Kona Village resort was tragically destroyed by a tsunami in 2011 and remained legendary until its reopening in 2023 by Rosewood as Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort. Is it as remarkable as its predecessor? T+L readers seem to believe so. “One of the most special places on earth, and I am grateful to Rosewood along with the construction and finance teams for their efforts to restore this beautiful resort,” commented one guest. Another called Kona Village the “best in Hawaii.” Renowned for its hospitality since its inception, the resort has preserved its unique character under new ownership. “The attention and care for guests are apparent throughout the resort, from check-in to checkout,” shared a survey participant.
