Dinogo readers have an insatiable love for Europe, and the race for the best hotels on the continent is always intense. While Paris is in the spotlight as it gets ready to host the Olympics, London has captured the spotlight this year in the city category. In the resort category, however, the winners were more diversified, with hotels from Spain, Greece, Italy, and France sharing the honors almost equally. Overall, the winning hotels are ultra-luxurious establishments situated in prime locations, featuring extensive amenities and exceptional service, making them perfect retreats after busy days of exploration.

Understanding the Voting Process

In our annual World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences from around the globe — providing their insights on the finest hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. This year, over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the 2024 survey, casting more than 700,000 votes across over 8,700 properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges based on their location and offerings, and were specifically evaluated on the following criteria:

What Readers Adored About City Hotels in Europe

London emerged as the undisputed champion this year, securing an impressive eight spots on the list—more than any other city has achieved in this category over the past three years. Notably, popular cities like Paris, Milan, and Florence were completely absent from the 2024 rankings. Among London’s accolades were several new or newly listed hotels, including the spotlight-stealing Raffles London at The OWO, which opened just at the end of September and already claimed the No. 3 position. Guests praised everything from the staff to the spa, with one remarking, “The most beautiful luxury hotel I have ever visited.” Another noted, “The reception team and concierge [were] always eager to assist and went [the] extra mile, and dinner at Mauro [Colagreco] was simply delicious.” Another standout hotel, the Shangri-La The Shard, London, secured the No. 9 spot this year, with one voter saying, “Incredible view, fantastic location, and super friendly staff.”

Highlights of Reader Favorites in European Resorts

European coastal resorts continue to win over our readers, with the bulk of this year's top choices situated by the sea. In previous years, Italy and Greece have led this list, but 2024 introduces Spain as the new leader in this category. Although it claims only three spots, this signifies a remarkable 200% growth compared to previous years, and most notably, Spain secured the top position this year.

The winners from Spain are distributed across the country, with Cap Rocat on Mallorca achieving the 12th spot. As one reader put it, “Cap Rocat is in a league of its own, unlike any other hotel.” Meanwhile, the Marbella Club Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa ranks 5th, celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and is recognized as “an iconic luxury hotel.” This year's top winner is situated in a wine region of Catalonia, just south of Barcelona.

Nonetheless, Italy’s stunning Lake Como and Amalfi Coast continue to enchant, featuring three winners this year. Mykonos and Santorini also maintain their status as readers' favorite Greek islands, with resorts there securing the 4th, 9th, and 14th positions. While mountain resorts often perform strongly, this year only one Alpine resort made the top 10, landing at 10th place.
