Dinogo Readers’ Top 5 Favorite Hawaiian Islands for 2024
Can anyone really have a mediocre vacation in Hawaii? According to our readers, it seems unlikely, as voters have something positive to say about nearly every part of this South Pacific paradise. Each year, Dinogo readers consistently highlight five exceptional islands as their favorites, and while the rankings might change, this year’s top selections are well-known to frequent World’s Best Awards participants.
How the Voting Process Works
For our World's Best Awards survey each year, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences from around the globe — offering insights on the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. In 2024, over 186,000 T+L readers participated, casting a remarkable total of more than 700,000 votes across over 8,700 entities (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
The islands were evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Natural landmarks/beaches
- Activities/sights
- Culinary experiences
- Community/friendliness
- Affordability
Respondents could rate each attribute as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores represent the average of these ratings.
What Readers Appreciated
Every island has much to offer, yet the stunning landscapes and vibrant Hawaiian culture stood out as highlights for all five on this year’s list. One voter remarked, “What we cherish most about Hawaii is the people and the rich native culture of these incredible islands.” Regarding Lanai (No. 5), a reader described it as a “remote island” that “exudes an authentic Hawaiian vibe.” Another voter said, “It’s like stepping into another world, with just a one-hour boat ride back to reality.” Oahu (No. 4) received acclaim for the bustling atmosphere, fantastic shopping, and dining scene in Honolulu, while Kauai’s (No. 3) more rugged and laid-back charm attracted many fans. Meanwhile, runner-up Maui garnered significant support from compassionate travelers following the devastating 2023 Lahaina fires, with one voter stating, “An island that needs plenty of hugs.” Another shared, “We opted to transition from vacation to volunteering, which turned out to be a fulfilling experience.” Yet another voter emphasized, “the true essence of aloha is present here.”
