How the Voting Process Works

Every year, T+L’s World's Best Awards survey invites readers to rate their travel experiences worldwide — from top resorts and hotels to cities and cruise lines. Over 186,000 readers participated in 2024, casting more than 700,000 votes across 8,700 properties.

Hotels were categorized as resort, city hotel, inn, or safari lodge based on location and amenities, and rated on the following criteria:

What Readers Appreciated

This year's list features three returning favorites from 2023 along with two new entries: The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, Puerto Rico (No. 2) and Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach and Golf Resort (No. 4). The former is making a strong comeback after being awarded No. 1 in our 2021 rankings. Located on a former coconut plantation by Bahia Beach in Río Grande, one reader noted, “many hotels and resorts differentiate themselves, and this is one of them.” The latter offers everything you need for a tropical escape, including three lagoon-style pools, a 20,000-square-foot sundeck by the beach, and a two-mile stretch of golden sand reserved for resort guests.

Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve (No. 3), impresses visitors with its expansive open-air villas. “Despite its size, you feel like you have your own private paradise in stunning villas with plunge pools, and it never feels overcrowded,” said one guest about their stay. About 23 miles to the west in San Juan, Puerto Rico’s largest city, is the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, which completes the top five. T+L readers praised the hotel’s ocean-view infinity pool, welcoming staff, exquisite dining, and personalized butler service. “If you’re visiting the city, this is the place to stay,” noted one voter.

Originally established in 1958 as a favorite among celebrities and wealthy travelers, Fairmont El San Juan Hotel has preserved its outstanding reputation throughout the years. This beachfront hotel soared four positions from its 2023 ranking due to a variety of distinctive onsite offerings, including cabaret-style shows at a hidden speakeasy and dining beneath a majestic 300-year-old Banyan tree. Guests can also enjoy a true Caribbean vacation experience with four pools, nine dining options, spacious villas, and a plethora of frozen daiquiris and piña coladas, best savored while relaxing on a float at the swim-up bar or in a private cabana in the adults-only pool area.

“I adore the hotel, its location, and the friendly staff,” exclaimed one voter. Another guest highlighted the “excellent concierge service and pool bar,” but their favorite place to relax was along the Caribbean coastline. “The beach is stunning and bustling with surfers. It was enjoyable to watch people while lounging in the sand.”
