In 2024, over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the survey, casting more than 700,000 votes across 8,700+ properties, including hotels and cruise lines.
Hotels were categorized as resort, city, inn, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and were specifically evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Facilities and Rooms
- Location
- Services Offered
- Culinary Options
- Overall Value
Respondents rated each characteristic as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are calculated as averages of these ratings.
Highlights from Readers
This year’s winners were highly praised for their central locations in Amsterdam, all easily accessible by foot to museums, shops, and cafés along the picturesque canals. Voters favored hotels that demonstrated exceptional attention to detail; for instance, at the Pulitzer Amsterdam (No. 3), a guest unable to find decaf coffee was reimbursed for a purchase made outside. Staff at the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky (No. 4) surprised a birthday couple by escorting them to their room, which was adorned with a bottle of Champagne, Dutch chocolates, and rose petals. “We will return,” they remarked. Overall, the Conservatorium hotel was recognized for its ability to blend tradition with modernity.
