The largest ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet is set for a major transformation.
On Thursday, the Miami-based cruise line revealed that the impressive 169,116-ton Norwegian Encore will enter a shipyard in November for a substantial refurbishment, which will include new cabins and redesigned suites.
Among the upgrades, an entirely new adult zone will be introduced on the ship's top deck, along with enhancements to two of its most beloved dining spots.
Simultaneously, Norwegian plans to remove the laser tag arena, a key feature of Norwegian Encore's top deck.

Launched in 2019, Norwegian Encore was hailed as the largest ship ever constructed by Norwegian, a title it still holds despite the recent introduction of two new ships — Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva.
Both of these new ships are considerably smaller than Norwegian Encore.
Norwegian Encore is also larger than another upcoming ship, Norwegian Aqua, which is scheduled to launch in 2025, along with a sister ship to Norwegian Aqua debuting in 2026.
Norwegian Encore will head to the shipyard for renovations starting on Nov. 18, with the project expected to be completed by Dec. 2.
The upcoming adult area at the ship's top will be named Spice H2O, mirroring the name used for adults-only sections on several other Norwegian vessels. However, Norwegian announced on Thursday that this new space will integrate features from both the existing Spice H2O areas and the adults-only Infinity Beach spots found on Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva.
This exclusive adult zone, designated for guests aged 18 and above, will feature multiple hot tubs, eight spacious daybeds set among pools, and a large bar offering a variety of cocktails.
It will occupy the space previously used for the ship's laser tag arena.
The two dining establishments being expanded are Cagney's Steakhouse and Teppanyaki, which specializes in Japanese cuisine. These restaurants will grow by absorbing the spaces of two other food venues: the Mexican restaurant Los Lobos on Deck 8 and the gelato shop Coco's on Deck 6. Neither of these previous venues will return to the ship.
Additionally, the seafood-focused Ocean Blue will be transformed into one of the Palomar restaurants featured on select Norwegian ships, offering what the line describes as elevated Mediterranean seafood dishes.
Norwegian indicated that the updates are a reaction to customer preferences.
"The desires and needs of our guests drive every decision we make, and by enhancing Norwegian Encore with experiences they cherish, we reaffirm our commitment to this principle," said David Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, in a statement released with the announcement.
New accommodations for Norwegian Encore
As part of the updates to the cabins and suites, Norwegian announced that the two largest suites on Norwegian Encore (known as Premier Owner's suites) will be expanded from two-bedroom configurations to three-bedroom layouts.
Norwegian introduced three-bedroom layouts on Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, and reports indicate there has been significant interest in these options. Additionally, three-bedroom suites are available on the recently renovated Norwegian Joy.
The Premier Owner's suites are situated within Norwegian Encore's exclusive The Haven area — a private sanctuary designated for suite guests that can be found on several Norwegian vessels.
Along with three bedrooms, the updated Premier Owner's suites will feature three-and-a-half bathrooms, a fully renovated living area, and a new separate dining space.
The Haven on Norwegian Encore includes a private pool area, restaurant, and bar, complemented by concierge service.
Additional modifications to the cabins will see the introduction of 24 new balcony cabins and two club balcony cabins.
Norwegian is creating space for these new cabins by reducing the size of the ship's Observation Lounge.
Following the refurbishment, Norwegian Encore is set to embark on a 12-night transatlantic journey from Southampton, England, to Miami, before commencing winter cruises from Miami to the Caribbean.
During the winter season, the ship will operate seven-night cruises with ports of call including Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian's private island in the Bahamas.
In the spring, the ship will relocate to Seattle for a series of voyages to Alaska.
