Explore Alaska’s Inside Passage and Journey Through the Canadian Rockies on This Unforgettable Trip
Two of the most enchanting ways to witness the stunning landscapes of Canada and Alaska have united through a new collaboration between the luxury British cruise line Cunard and the rail operator Rocky Mountaineer.
This year, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, passengers aboard Cunard’s renowned Queen Elizabeth ocean liner sailing in Alaska can enhance their journey with either a four-night pre-cruise or a three-night post-cruise adventure on the Rocky Mountaineer through the Canadian Rockies, depending on their sailing date.
This marks the second collaboration between the two companies to craft this remarkable itinerary (the first being in 2019). Other cruise lines, such as American Queen Voyages, have also partnered with Rocky Mountaineer over the years. However, this is your sole opportunity for such an adventure in 2023.
The three-night post-cruise rail journey (starting at $2,850 per person) travels from Vancouver to Calgary, while the four-night pre-cruise trip (starting at $3,250) covers the same route in reverse and includes an extra day in Banff National Park. Throughout the journey, guests enjoy stays at luxury hotels arranged by Rocky Mountaineer, including the Elk + Avenue and Rimrock Resort Hotel, both located near Banff.
This particular Rocky Mountaineer route is often regarded as one of the most breathtaking train journeys globally, allowing guests to take in the stunning canyons and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies from the glass-domed 180-degree panoramic train cars.
Cunard is offering seven sailings in Alaska in 2023, ranging from 7 to 12 days. Each round-trip itinerary departs and returns to Vancouver, Canada, navigating Alaska’s famous Inside Passage and visiting port cities such as Sitka (noted for its totem poles and Russian-era architecture) and Juneau (where travelers can see the half-mile-wide Mendenhall Glacier and take a helicopter tour to Admiralty Island, home to the largest concentration of brown bears in the world). The Queen Elizabeth will also visit secluded destinations only accessible by ship, including the inner areas of Glacier Bay National Park and Hubbard Glacier.
The combined Cunard–Rocky Mountaineer itinerary can be reserved through Cunard’s website or via a travel advisor. Cunard is also running a Wave Season promotion offering up to 30 percent off fares and up to $2,000 in onboard credit per stateroom.
