Travel to Europe starting at just $129
Reykjavik-based budget airline Play Airlines offers one-way tickets from the East Coast to Iceland for only $129, and to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dublin, Glasgow, and London for just $159, if you make your reservation by September 4. This promotional fare is valid for flights from October 2023 through March 2024.
Founded in 2019, Play began transatlantic flights in December 2021. This no-frills, budget airline resembles the now-defunct Icelandic carrier Wow Air, with many executives, including CEO Birgir Jónsson, previously involved with Wow. What can you expect when flying with Play? We recently evaluated the experience, featuring bright-red narrow-body Airbus planes arranged in a six-seat configuration with three seats on each side of the aisle. There is one class: economy. The seats come with adjustable padded headrests but lack power outlets, Wi-Fi, or in-flight screens. Expect additional fees, and customer service is accessible online via Facebook, WhatsApp, or email.
Our dedicated airline correspondent Barbara Peterson noted that “if your main goal is to find a budget-friendly flight to Europe, Play will meet your needs. Given the high prices for transatlantic flights this year, this newcomer presents an appealing alternative, plus the chance to visit Iceland or spend a few days there en route to other destinations.” Play flights include a connection through Iceland.
