Get ready for an unforgettable experience as a Princess Bride-inspired bar makes its debut in Chicago!

A ‘mawage’ of fine drinks and the unforgettable movie ‘The Princess Bride’ is what brings fans together today. (For the uninitiated, the reference is from the film’s famous wedding scene.)
In Chicago, The Sixth Bar is celebrating one of the greatest films of the '80s with the As You Wish pop-up, which opened on February 11th as a heartfelt tribute to The Princess Bride.
Although initially a box office underperformer, The Princess Bride has since become a cult phenomenon, full of unforgettable quotes, and was added to the National Film Registry for its cultural significance.
The bar's name is inspired by the iconic line from the movie, where Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright) commands Westley (Cary Elwes), who dutifully responds, 'As you wish.'

‘We’re huge fans of the movie, so we wanted to create an immersive experience in one of our finest spaces, with decor and drinks that are as inventive, fun, and playful as the film itself,’ explained Dave Andrews, a spokesperson for The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group, which includes The Sixth.
The space is transformed with thrones, sparkling tiaras, flowers, vines, and life-sized cutouts of beloved characters, perfect for snapping a memorable selfie.
Certain seating areas pay tribute to iconic characters like Westley, Inigo Montoya, Vizzini, and Fezzik, adding even more charm to the experience.
Creating a fully immersive experience is key to making people happy. Adding subtle Easter eggs and references to lesser-known moments from the movie also brings fans immense joy.
Step inside the As You Wish pop-up bar.
Upon entering, guests are welcomed by a logo featuring Buttercup and Westley holding cocktails, designed by Sarah Zelman, the marketing director of The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group and the mastermind behind the pop-up concept.
As visitors venture deeper into the bar, they’ll find themselves walking on faux grass, surrounded by large installations that bring the story's opening to life.

‘As seen in the movie, the grandpa begins reading to his grandson, and the first thing you encounter are the opening lines of the film. The first area is designed to resemble the farm with its rolling hills, capturing the charm of the British countryside,’ explained Zelman.
‘This is where the adventure begins, and it’s also where characters like Princess Buttercup, Westley, and Fezzik reside. Each has their own memorable quote displayed,’ Zelman added.

The menu offers a selection of 16 themed cocktails, including fan favorites like 'The Kissing Book' and 'Inconceivable.'
'The Kissing Book' blends gin with ginger, cherry, and cranberry tonic, while 'Inconceivable' combines aperol, tequila, green chartreuse, oyster tincture, and strawberry-jalapeno cordial, topped with a chocolate-covered strawberry.
Even the ice cubes are a part of the theme, with laminated images from the film frozen inside each one.
A timeless experience.
Despite being released 33 years ago, 'The Princess Bride' continues to captivate audiences, making its impact felt across generations.
'What makes the movie so unique is that it resonates with such a wide range of people,' Zelman shared. 'It’s not just tied to one age group or a specific era, but connects with everyone from its release to the present.'

Some couples have marked anniversaries and special milestones at the pop-up, while others bring their children because they know 'The Princess Bride' is a family favorite. 'We even had someone tell us they used a quote from the movie in their wedding vows,' Zelman recalled.
'What truly warms my heart is seeing people come dressed as their favorite characters,' Zelman said. 'I feel so honored that people are appreciating it this much, especially since I worked so hard to stay true to the movie.'

As You Wish is the latest pop-up from The Sixth, following their 'Yippee Ki-Yay' bar inspired by 'Die Hard' during the holiday season.
The pop-up is open every evening until the early hours, running until March 22.
