Hawaiian Airlines Now Offers Flights on Its Stylish New Aircraft
Hawaiian Airlines has recently introduced revamped cabins for its upcoming Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, set to launch in early 2024. These planes feature comprehensive interior enhancements, including the new business-class Leihōkū Suites, upgraded economy seating, and a design inspired by the Hawaiian islands. Tickets for the inaugural flights are now available.
From April 15 to May 14, Hawaiian Airlines will provide daily flights on the new Dreamliners between Honolulu and San Francisco. Select flights will also operate between Honolulu and Los Angeles starting May 14, and between Maui and Los Angeles from May 15.

Leihōkū Suites
Out of the 300 seats on the Dreamliners, the first 34 will be designated as business class, known as the Leihōkū Suites. The name, which means 'garland of stars' in Hawaiian, reflects the ceiling design intended to mimic the sky, with lighting that transitions from sunset to a starry night featuring the same constellations that guided Polynesian navigators.
Guests in the Leihōkū Suites will enjoy prime views of the evolving sky, as their personal pods come with closable doors and can fully recline. These pods include an 18-inch in-flight entertainment screen, personal power outlets, and wireless charging. The seating is arranged in a one-two-one configuration, ensuring aisle access for every passenger. Additionally, the two middle pods can lower their partition to form a double seat, while window seats feature extra-large, dimmable windows.
By developing the Leihōkū Suites, Hawaiian became the first airline to collaborate with Adient Aerospace, a joint venture between Adient and Boeing focused on airplane seating (although Qatar Airways is already utilizing similar suites on its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners due to a delivery delay).
Details about the in-flight experience, including food and beverage options as well as other amenities, have yet to be announced.

Economy Seats
The remaining 266 seats will be in economy class, with 79 designated as 'Extra Comfort' seats offering additional legroom. These seats will feature Collin Aerospace’s Aspire design, providing ergonomically contoured back and armrests. Each seat will come with a 12-inch monitor and both USB-A and USB-C charging ports, arranged in a three-three-three configuration.

Interior design of the cabin
As per a press announcement, Hawaiian collaborated with Teague, an interior design firm, to craft an interior that pays tribute to the pristine beauty of Hawaiʻi and its Pacific navigators.
Loreto Julian, a design manager at Teague, shared with Dinogo, "We identified five fundamental elements that guided the Hawaiian navigators: the sun, stars, wind, ocean, and wildlife. These were essential as we envisioned the entire cabin interior. The plane's entryway features one of its most symbolic elements, combining koa wood, flank panels, and a ceiling dome with a relief pattern that reflects the traditional warmth of the island."
Additional design features will incorporate flowing shapes throughout the aircraft that represent the winds and waves of the islands, lavatory flooring inspired by black volcanic sand, and materials that reflect native Hawaiian flora. The Hawaiian language will also be featured in the row numbers and signage throughout the plane. Even the lavatory occupancy indicators will depict male and female figures adorned in traditional Hawaiian attire.
