Hyatt has just rolled out extensive free, on-site COVID-19 testing

As of January 26, all travelers heading to the U.S. from other countries are required to show a negative COVID-19 test for entry. In response, numerous hotels have enhanced their offerings by providing on-site testing for guests, making compliance easier without the hassle of logistics.
Previously, the availability of on-site testing varied widely by location rather than by brand. However, Hyatt has now become the first major hotel chain to implement on-site COVID-19 testing at all its resorts in Latin America. The testing is free, and there are arrangements to help guests who test positive and need time before returning to the U.S.
Hyatt's free on-site COVID-19 testing service
Hyatt is now providing on-site COVID-19 testing at all 19 of its resorts in Latin America, including easily accessible destinations for Americans such as the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, and parts of South America. Best of all, these tests are offered at no charge.
Depending on the location, guests will receive either a rapid antigen test or an RT-PCR test, both of which meet CDC approval. Each guestroom can request two complimentary tests per stay, with additional tests available for a fee. The minimum stay requirements differ by property.
It's essential to understand that this offer applies only to designated resort properties. For instance, a Hyatt Place near the airport is unlikely to provide testing. Participating resorts include the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, Park Hyatt St. Kitts, Thompson Beach House in Playa del Carmen, along with various Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara locations.
What to do if you test positive

Unlike some hotels, Hyatt has a strategy for handling positive test results. Specifically, resorts in Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America (excluding Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara properties) will provide a Travel Delay Rate for guests whose plans are affected by testing-related issues. This can save guests up to 50% on room rates and 30% on food and beverages.
Hopefully, you won’t need to utilize these rates. However, if you do, you’ll earn World of Hyatt points and tier-qualifying nights as usual. If you signed up for the Bonus Journeys promotion, you’ll receive extra points and double elite nights for qualifying stays until February 28. With this promotion, a cobranded Hyatt credit card, and Hyatt halving elite qualification thresholds, you could achieve top-tier Globalist status after your quarantine.
In summary
On-site COVID-19 testing at hotels will be crucial for revitalizing the travel industry. While Marriott and Hilton provide this service at some Latin American locations, Hyatt is the first major chain to offer extensive testing at all its resorts in the region.
It’s encouraging to see that, unlike many hotels, Hyatt is providing free on-site testing. More importantly, they have a strategy in place for guests who test positive and are working to lessen the costs associated with quarantine.
