Mobile TSA PreCheck Enrollment Centers Are Launching in Various U.S. Cities

As part of a TSA PreCheck enrollment roadshow, mobile enrollment trucks will be traveling this fall to assist travelers in completing their in-person interviews and fingerprinting for TSA PreCheck applications—eliminating the need to go to the airport.

To enroll in TSA PreCheck, a program designed to expedite security screening, you must first complete the online application and then schedule an in-person interview at one of the enrollment centers, many of which are found at airports across the country.

Currently, IdentoGO mobile enrollment trucks are spreading across the U.S., allowing travelers who have submitted their online applications to either schedule an appointment or visit one of the mobile RV sites during operating hours for a walk-in interview and fingerprinting. These trucks are operated by Idemia, the security services provider managing the nation’s TSA PreCheck centers.

The intensified effort to assist travelers in enrolling in TSA PreCheck comes as reports indicate long lines at airports this year, coinciding with a significant rebound in travel following the pandemic. Now, more than ever, travelers will likely value the ability to move through TSA security lines quickly and without the need to remove laptops and shoes, unlike the often lengthy normal TSA screening lines that wind through terminals.

This coincides with the fact that processing times for Global Entry applications—a related trusted traveler program that includes TSA PreCheck and facilitates quicker customs processing for international arrivals—have been delayed (although we recently shared some strategies to expedite the Global Entry process). With wait times for Global Entry currently between 6 and 18 months, the Department of Homeland Security is advising travelers who primarily fly domestically to consider obtaining TSA PreCheck first.

“If you don’t travel internationally multiple times a year, we advise you to apply for the TSA PreCheck Program,” DHS stated on its website. “Most TSA PreCheck applicants can book an appointment in less than two weeks and, if approved, can receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) in about 3 to 5 days following the appointment.”

A five-year Global Entry membership is priced at $100 and includes TSA PreCheck benefits. TSA PreCheck alone costs $85 for a five-year membership. (As of October 1, 2021, the renewal fee for TSA PreCheck membership online was reduced from $85 to $70.)
