My Adventure to Catalina Island, Dominican Republic

Last month, Jeff and I boarded a flight to Miami and then set sail on the Dinogo Vista for an 8-night Caribbean cruise in collaboration with Dinogo. This was our May trip in the series of 12 trips within 12 months.
We had an incredible experience exploring stunning destinations – Turks & Caicos, Dominican Republic, and Aruba. Today, I’m excited to share all the highlights from one of my favorite stops: the Dominican Republic! We visited Catalina Island, just a short boat ride from La Romana, and it exceeded my expectations. The island is dotted with colorful cottages, pristine white sand beaches, and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Simply amazing! Read on for all the details.

A bit of background... I had never visited the Dominican Republic before and was unsure of what to anticipate. After receiving a recommendation from my blogging friend Michael of Inspired by Charm (who experienced the same cruise a few months earlier), Jeff and I decided to book an excursion to Catalina Island. It was absolutely STUNNING, so naturally, I snapped countless photos.

How do you reach the island? From the port at La Romana, we enjoyed a quick bus ride to the boat, and the journey to the island took about 30-40 minutes by sea. I actually found the boat ride quite enjoyable. It was fascinating to catch a glimpse of the La Romana coastline, which looks quite different from Catalina Island.

Upon arriving at our beach on Catalina Island, we found ourselves completely alone (another group showed up about an hour later, but it remained pleasantly uncrowded), allowing me to capture photos with absolutely no one else in sight. Hooray!
Jeff and I enjoyed the cocktails we received upon disembarking from the boat, had a lovely lunch, explored the shops (which are conveniently located right off the beach – there are several in a row), and then spent the rest of our time relaxing in the water. Out of all the beaches we’ve visited over the years, Catalina Island certainly ranks among the top five! I highly recommend it. In your opinion, where is the ‘ultimate’ tropical getaway? Is it in the Caribbean or perhaps another destination? I’d love to know!
