Ritz-Carlton's banner will once again grace Cancun's beaches in 2027

Ritz-Carlton is making its comeback to Cancun two years after departing from this beloved Mexican vacation hotspot.

Scheduled to open in 2027, the brand-new Ritz-Carlton, Cancun, Punta Nizuc will be just 10 minutes from the airport, featuring a striking building with 131 rooms and suites, plus 126 branded residences, developed in collaboration with FibraHotel, Fibra Danhos, and Beyond Ventures.

While specifics about additional resort amenities are still limited, we do know that it will include an oceanfront pool complex, a spa, and six dining and bar options.

"Marriott is excited to reintroduce The Ritz-Carlton brand to Cancun as we strive to meet the increasing demand for luxury travel experiences and top-tier branded residences," stated Brian King, president of Caribbean & Latin America at Marriott International, in a statement regarding the project.

Ritz-Carlton first established its presence in Cancun in 1993 when The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun became the brand's inaugural hotel outside the U.S. In 2022, the aging property removed the Ritz-Carlton name and was rebranded as the Kempinski Hotel Cancun.

At that time, the aging hotel faced fierce competition from newly opened luxury hotels in the area, boasting fresh renovations, upgraded amenities, and overall better value. It appeared that the former Ritz-Carlton, Cancun was not upholding the Ritz-Carlton brand standards or providing the modern luxury experience found at newer Ritz-Carlton properties worldwide, such as The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad.

With the Ritz-Carlton's return, Marriott continues to enhance its luxury offerings in Cancun. Next year, The St. Regis Costa Mujeres Resort is set to open just north of Cancun in Costa Mujeres. Further south, near Playa del Carmen, The Riveria Maya Edition at Kanai debuted this year to great acclaim.

While The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun, Punta Nizuc will provide Marriott Bonvoy members with a classic resort experience, Marriott is also emphasizing its luxury all-inclusive resorts in greater Cancun. Later this October, Almare, an adults-only Luxury Collection all-inclusive resort, will launch on Isla Mujeres, adding a premium option to Marriott's all-inclusive lineup.
