This Quaint Greek Island Is the Perfect Hidden Treasure — Just a 7-Minute Ferry Ride from Paros
While Mykonos and Santorini are often at the top of Greek island itineraries, the vibrant party scene of the Cyclades and the breathtaking views of Santorini have captivated countless travelers over the years. Additionally, both locations are easily reachable by ferry and airplane, making them convenient hubs for island hopping.
However, if you wish to venture off the beaten path and discover a quieter, less commercialized side of the Cyclades, Antiparos is a fantastic choice. Despite being close to Paros—currently gaining popularity with its Instagram-worthy Naoussa and luxurious hotels like Andronis Minois and Avant Mar—this small, serene island remains a hidden gem. 'I truly appreciate that it lacks large chains and brands, keeping everything local and distinctive,' shares Caro Favre, co-owner of Casa Fistiki. The ambiance is laid-back, allowing you to lose track of time lounging on the beach and enjoying Assyrtiko with friends. With its effortlessly cool vibe, it’s a favorite retreat for the jet set seeking a week in a charming whitewashed villa accessible only by a dirt road, as well as for savvy day trippers from nearby islands looking to unwind even more.

Expect a whitewashed minimalist aesthetic, outdoor pools, and sweeping panoramic views.

Want to be close to dining and shopping options? Kouros Village is conveniently located right by the harbor. 'It's simpler but cozy, featuring modern decor and an outdoor pool. Plus, it boasts an excellent location,' notes Favre.

Some of Antiparos's most stunning spots are best reached by boat. Hiring a private vessel allows you to explore various bays and enjoy a picnic lunch on a secluded stretch of beach. Alternatively, you can opt for a small group tour, offering a similar experience at a more affordable price.
Faneromeni Beach
An incredibly beautiful choice for both adventure seekers and those looking for tranquility, Faneromeni Beach is a secluded cove accessible via a rocky, uneven dirt road (approximately a 20-minute drive from town). With no amenities available, be sure to pack drinks, snacks, towels, and umbrellas — everything necessary for a perfect beach day.
Agios Georgios Beach
Located in the small village of the same name, Agios Georgios Beach is a sheltered bay featuring crystal-clear waters and stunning views of Despotiko. While amenities like sunbeds and umbrellas are not available for rent, the serene and picturesque environment more than compensates for the need to BYOS (bring your own shade).
Antiparos Village
This delightful harbor village is compact and easy to navigate. Favre recommends visiting in the evening when temperatures are milder. 'Take a leisurely walk down the main street, browse the shops, enjoy a nice dinner, and finish off with drinks or gelato,' she suggests.
Despotiko
Located southwest of Antiparos, Despotiko is a small islet solely inhabited by goats, featuring the Ancient Sanctuary of Apollo and picturesque sandy beaches. The serene, crystal-clear waters invite visitors to anchor their boats and take a refreshing swim.

At Casa Fistiki, experience a fusion of Mexican and Mediterranean flavors in a chic setting with a laid-back atmosphere and stunning sea views. It’s an ideal spot to settle at a low table, enjoy a cocktail or freshly squeezed juice, and indulge in shared plates of corn ribs, tuna tostadas, and butterfly-grilled fish with friends.
Kalokeri
'The proprietors of Kalokeri are incredibly welcoming and genuinely prioritize service,' notes Favre. The dishes reflect authentic Aegean flavors, yet the experience is more refined than traditional taverna fare, featuring artfully presented red mullet tartare and dolmadakia wrapped in vine leaves. The wine selection is outstanding as well.
Sapou
Regarded as one of the island's top dining spots, Sapou offers modern Mediterranean dishes with a hint of Asian flair. Highlights include red shrimp tartare topped with crumbled hazelnuts and char siu Greek pork.
Zombos
At Zombos, the emphasis is on fresh, high-quality ingredients. Vegetables sourced from the garden, meats from the family farm, and seafood caught by local fishermen create wholesome dishes like pappardelle with goat ragu, baked aubergine, and traditional Greek salad.
Taverna Yorgis
Warm and welcoming, Taverna Yorgis is a family-owned restaurant that treats its guests like cherished friends. Their homemade Greek specialties, including tzatziki, freshly baked moussaka, gigante beans, and chicken souvlaki, are served with genuine hospitality and paired with local wines.
Best Time to Visit
Nicolas Economou/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesJune is a lovely month to visit as the weather is warm but not excessively hot, and the island remains relatively tranquil. Favre notes that July and August are perfect for those seeking a lively and social atmosphere. Even during the busiest months, the island maintains a peaceful vibe, allowing visitors to enjoy serene, uncrowded beaches. By September, the water has warmed up beautifully over the summer, and with most tourists gone, it’s another delightful time to explore.
How to Get There
While many opt for the ferry from Parikia, the main port on Paros, the trip from the smaller port of Pounda is actually faster and more economical. This journey takes around seven minutes and costs one euro per passenger or seven euros for a car. Additionally, it’s easy to arrange a group or private sightseeing tour from Paros to visit Antiparos for the day.
How to Get Around
