This Season Holds the Key to Enjoying Your Ideal European Vacation on a Budget
Let’s clarify: there’s no such thing as a 'bad' time to visit Europe. Yet, there are moments that are significantly more budget-friendly, particularly during the continent's shoulder season.
Shoulder season travel encompasses those perfect windows just before or after a destination's peak season. It's a time when travelers can discover amazing deals on flights and accommodations while avoiding large crowds. Plus, it's a prime opportunity to experience Europe like a local.
'We noticed an overwhelming interest in European travel from Americans this summer, but even before the pandemic, Europe has long been a beloved summer escape for many,' said Katy Nastro, travel expert at Going, in an interview with Dinogo. 'A bustling European summer means crowds flocking to enjoy the warm weather and, naturally, higher costs. However, the shoulder seasons are a magical time to experience the region's beauty with fewer tourists, pleasant temperatures, and more affordable prices.'
For instance, Nastro highlighted destinations like southern Spain, which sees a surge of tourists during the summer. Yet, she mentioned that you can still enjoy a beach getaway in the region at the end of September or early October. 'It's also a better time to enjoy attractions, as you may encounter shorter lines and milder weather while waiting compared to the chillier off-seasons,' Nastro noted.
Moreover, Nastro pointed out that most major European cities are fantastic to explore in the fall since 'the summer heat won’t be overwhelming, but don’t forget about places where you can immerse yourself in nature and witness the changing seasons, which are also worth considering.'

Munich, Germany
