Turkish Airlines Is Introducing New Flights from the USA to Istanbul

Midwest travelers will soon find it easier to explore the renowned bazaars, mosques, palaces, and churches of Istanbul, as Turkish Airlines has announced a new route connecting Detroit to Istanbul.

Initially, the route will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through the end of 2023, with Saturday flights added in early 2024. Departing from Detroit at 9:35 p.m. local time, the flights will reach Istanbul by 3:35 p.m. local time. The return leg will leave Istanbul at 3:45 p.m. and arrive back in the U.S. at 6:50 p.m. The lowest one-way fares are currently $492 for economy and $2,001 for business class, with flights conducted on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

Once launched, Detroit will become the 13th U.S. gateway for Turkish Airlines, which also services cities like Atlanta, Seattle, New York, Newark, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC. The airline has been actively expanding its U.S. presence, having added Newark and Dallas–Fort Worth in 2021 and Seattle in 2022. Future direct flights are planned for Denver and Orlando, although specific dates are yet to be announced.

Additionally, Turkish Airlines features a stop-over program in Istanbul for connecting travelers. Those with layovers of at least 20 hours may receive a complimentary hotel stay—economy class passengers are offered one night in a four-star hotel, while business class travelers can enjoy up to two nights in a five-star hotel. This offer applies only to round-trip tickets and can be utilized once (either on the outbound or return journey).

Turkish Airlines operates in 129 countries, boasting over 340 destinations, including numerous popular tourist spots in Europe like Paris, Barcelona, Rome, London, and Vienna. The airline often provides competitive fares on flights from the United States to Europe via Istanbul.
