Upcoming travel strikes impacting Europe in the next few weeks

Here’s a list of strikes to keep an eye on in the U.K. and Europe.

Discover Airlines is facing a strike by German pilots and cabin crew.

Strike dates: August 27 through August 30.

Strikes will disrupt flights from Frankfurt and Munich operated by Discover Airlines, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, scheduled from 12:01 a.m. on August 27 to 11:59 p.m. on August 30.

"The trade unions Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) and the Independent Flight Attendants' Organisation (UFO) have announced strikes on all Discover Airlines flights from August 27 until midnight on the 30th," stated Discover. "We are striving to minimize disruptions for our passengers. Please regularly check your flight status and ensure your contact information is updated in your booking."

Strikes are also planned by airport workers in Italy.

Date: September 7

Travel to and from Italy is expected to face delays and cancellations in early September due to multiple strikes in the area.

Pilots and cabin crew at ITA Airways and Wizz Air are set to strike from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; air traffic controllers at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Sardinia's Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) will join them during the same hours.

Additionally, baggage handlers at Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), Florence's Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR), and Pisa International Airport (PSA) will conduct their own walkouts concurrently.

Strikes affecting public transportation in Italy are also planned.

Dates: September 8, 9, and 20

A 24-hour strike will be held on September 8 by train drivers, conductors, and onboard staff of Trenitalia and Italo, likely disrupting both regional and long-distance services.

On September 9, further disruptions are anticipated as bus, tram, and train employees nationwide plan an additional eight-hour strike, with specific times varying by city.

Another 24-hour public transport strike is scheduled for September 20 in Italy.

Airport security personnel in Alicante, Spain, are also set to strike.

Dates: August 30 to 31

A strike by security personnel will impact Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport (ALC) on August 30 and 31, taking place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. local time each day. This action follows previous strikes at the airport from August 1 to 4 and August 15 to 18.

Travelers are advised to allow extra time for security checks during the strike period, although airport officials indicate that significant delays are not expected at this time.
